It seems to me that our defensive backs are always looking at the receiver and never know where the ball is at. Even when they are not chasing a faster receiver they seem to do this. Is this how they are coached to play? Would it be poor defense to occasionally look back and see where he ball is? I think we would see more interceptions and breakups and rarely get burned anymore than we currently seem to? Legitimate question as to whether this is a coaching philosophy? By the way, I see this in the pro's too.

My guess is its a coaching philosophy. Gibbs had the same philosophy when he was our DC. I don't recall the rational behind it. He also preferred to give up a PI instead of a big play.

Trenton Norvell 11-23 160 yards. D gave up 227 yards total, a quarter of it on one play. 4-14 3rd down conversions. That's bad? I think they played very well.

They went through some odd streaks in the game. The TD drive in the 1st half, we gave up slant after slant and it appeared like we had no idea how to defend it. Then they played well after that. It was sure weird...

It seems like they've started every game with the corners playing really soft coverage, teams then take advantage of it with screens and slants, then we make the adjustment with tighter coverage and shut it down. Why not just start out playing tighter coverage?

Gophertime didn't say it was bad. Just asked if they are coached that way. I agree they often seem to have great position and might make a great play if they would turn around. I think our secondary has been very good.
