INDIANAPOLIS -- Louisville coach Rick Pitino wants to schedule a three-year series with his son Richard's Minnesota team, with the hope that the matchup would start in next season's ACC-Big Ten Challenge.

Rick Pitino told ESPN on Friday that he is hopeful the two conferences will pair Louisville and Minnesota beginning next season, with the game in Minneapolis. Pitino said he would then want to start a true home-and-home series, beginning at Louisville during the 2016-17 season.

Louisville defeated Minnesota in the Armed Forces Classic last November at a U.S. Coast Guard base in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Louisville beat visiting Florida International in 2013 when Richard was coach of the Golden Panthers.

Richard Pitino has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the opening at Alabama after Wichita State's Gregg Marshall turned down overtures from the Crimson Tide. There are no indications that Pitino has spoken to Alabama officials.

BOOM

He ain't going no where.

+1. You kinda got that feeling when Rick was talking about how refreshing it was that many young coaches were staying where they were and not looking to a better place and the next stop. But then again Amelia needed some clicks on the star tribune website so there's that.

Also this at that bottom of the article "There are no indications that Pitino has spoken to Alabama officials."

Sounds like a no-brainer to me. 3 years in a row playing a top program with 2 of the games at home? Sign me up.

This kind of thing not only makes us feel better about Richard staying put, it's also nice for recruiting purposes. Playing Louisville in the non-conference, on a big stage, is probably pretty enticing.

So we could add Louisville and Texas to the schedule. That's exactly the kind of thing we need to do. I always said we needed to add two good schools to the schedule.

That would be so fantastic. Absolutely wonderful. Would drive ticket sales for sure.

My skeptical side says we're more likely to see Northern Kentucky (not Louisville, KY) and Texas State on the home schedule.

This would be great hopefully the ACC/B1G get it started with the challenge this season.

Was just logging on to post this story. I think this is the "denial' of interest in Alabama that some of us expected to come before all the coaches stuff really got going in Indianapolis this weekend. Very smart way to do kind of subtlety put it out there, you can tell Rick Pitino obviously knows how to play the game. This way Richard never has to issue any denial of interest and it doesn't set any precedent for the next time his name comes up in the rumor mill. A three year series with Louisville would be great, but I've never been under the impression that schools have been able to "call their shot" so to speak with regards to who they play in the B1G/ACC challenge.

Well put Madtown. Keeping recruiting front and center with all the noise and distractions is important right now. Good move by the father/son combo.

I agree with this statement but the challenge alway likes games that generate buzz and this is an easy one for them if both teams would agree to it. only problem is it'd be pairing a top half both projected and last years standings louisville against a bottom half both finished and next year likely projected MN team.

We should know in the next month or so if Jim Delany, John Swofford, and ESPN find this matchup as appealing as Father & Son do. Last year Challenge pairings were released May 1.

Not sure what the financial arrangements are for the Challenge with the schools, but it smells like it is beneficial to have the game part of the challenge rather than scheduled by the teams. We do keep hearing that the financial need for guarantee games is one of the reasons for a crappy home schedule. Maybe the challenge neutralizes that a bit.

Just don't think they will meet in the challenge. 12-6 against 6-12? Why not Duke against Northwestern if Coach K is for it? Mentor vs student. Don't want to see the coaches pull the strings as to who plays who.

I'm in. I'm so in. I don't care if we lose by 20. It'll be nice to play a big game at the barn that doesn't have a bunch of Wisconsin or Iowa fans there.
