Barb Smith resigns as assistant HC and Abby Kalland has resigned as Director of Basketball Operations, both a week after practice started. Pretty bad timing.

It seems like Borton has some ongoing issues with the program and is fortunate that the local media turns a relative blind eye to significant player departure and now very odd timing for coach departures.

Go Gophers!!

Good old Joel actually had a women's program that was on the verge of allowing him to use the black pen.

There was smoke AND writing on the wall several times after the Final Four run, but he wasn't proactive and now can safely keep the red pen on the table.

I'm guessing this boat is sinking fast. Maturi may have no choice but to take action soon.

I don't think Abby has left yet, but by the end of the month she will be gone. Borton lost a freshman this summer too, Janelle Cannon. But she went to Illinois State and has since left that program as well.

Kelly Roysland is joining the Gophers staff coaching staff as an assistant.

As already noted, Kelly Roysland is joining Borton's staff. She played for her and is a whole lot more familiar with the situation than you are. Doubt she would jump on a boat that is sinking so fast although the timing of this is curious.

Typical of the rare women's thread on this forum. Only when something can be construed as negative is a thread started. Then animosity that's unwarranted by the record is shown toward Borton. Then a quick leap at a chance to bash Maturi as a disaster of an AD. Mostly by folks who make it pretty evident they basically know little about the program.

That said, this is an important year for Borton. Last year's team was dreadful to watch at times with their poor shooting and turnovers. She has a decent bunch returning and has stated that how much she expects from the freshmen. Hopefully, she's transitioning to valuing shooting and offense more and relying less on the grind it out, rugged type of players she seems to favor. That remains to be seen, but they do have to be more entertaining to stop the attendance slide.

I'm optimistic, but the fans I really envy are Iowa's. I think Bluder is about ready to take them to the next level. They have a good team returning and are starting to recruit highly ranked players.

She also has more NCAA Tournament wins than Tubby in the past 3 years.

I would suggest everyone calm down and see how the season goes. Barring something shady, nothing's happening to Borton until May/June/July when Maturi completes his evaluation of the program.

If the women's team can just keep there head above water until Lindsay Whalen retires from the WNBA they will be fine. If she wants to coach can anyone come up with a half-@$$ed reason not to hire her?

Ugly

Resignations of staff after practice has begun is a very bad sign. There is just something very strange about this program.

If this is your first coaching job at this level you jump in where ever you can get in.

As a fan maybe we bash Borton because she took a final four program and reduced it to (Well, nobody cares).:mad::mad:
