per ABC Newspapers:
The 59th Annual Anoka Alumni Athletic Club (A Club) Banquet is scheduled for Monday, May 20, with University of Minnesota head football coach P.J. Fleck the guest speaker.
Fleck will arrive with Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the traveling trophy the Gophers won by defeating Wisconsin in their rivalry game this past fall. It is the first time ‘The Axe’ is in Minnesota since 2003.
The Anoka A Club will award three $5,000 scholarships at the event. Scholarships are applied for by Anoka High School student athletes and are awarded without knowledge of the individual who has applied. The A Club Board of Directors review, select and award the scholarships from numbered applications, as the names have been removed for a fair and final selection process.
The Anoka A Club is a non-profit organization that raises funds for graduating senior high school student athletes. The funds are generated from an annual golf tournament, silent auctions, a live auction, membership dues ($15 annually) and cash donations from our membership.
This year’s event will be held at the Greenhaven Country Club in Anoka. There will be a social hour beginning at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 and the program at 7.
