per the Owatonna People's Press:
It’s been a crazy ride so far, but the current University of Minnesota freshman hasn’t had time to let it all sink in quite yet. The Gophers have a huge game this Saturday, and Stelter is a big part of Minnesota’s defensive line rotation.
“It hasn’t really hit me yet,” Stelter said when asked what it’s like playing for the Gophers. “Maybe after the season it will, but right now, I’m in the middle of the grind preparing for Ohio State.”
The fact that Stelter is in the regular rotation on coach Jerry Kill’s defensive line is quite impressive considering that a large percentage of freshman at the Division I level spend a year redshirting and don’t travel with the team or suit up for home games.
Though nothing was guaranteed, Stelter knew he had a decent shot at seeing the field right away and trained accordingly.
“When I was getting recruited the coaches said they thought I would have a chance to play as a freshman,” Stelter said. “I came in with the mindset that I was going to be on the field.”
