I'm putting my over/under at 4 recruits for the program in June, all with respectable numbers and offers.

I'll take the under (and I'm almost always wrong). Limited number of schollies and a coaching staff that said they need to be picky. That combined with top dogs never picking us early means very few commits. I'd bet we're around 5-7 commits when camp opens...

My money is on Sparlimb for the reasons that he stated. It would be great to be like Ohio State and Michigan and know who your recruits are now but we don't have that luxury. I expect some recruits also want to see how we do this fall before making a decision.

I will take the under, but I'd love to be wrong. I would hope that by this point in their tenure, the staff could at least secure a couple of solid commitments from the in state kids prior to Fall camp starting. If Jones would become solidly a Gopher and someone like Ragnow also committed, I'd consider that a solid start to the class.

It will be interesting to see who ends up camping with the Gophers this Summer. If they get some highly regarded kids to come for camp, maybe the staff can land a couple more guys before Fall practice.

Whenever they commit, I just hope to see a class filled with more kids who other B1G, SEC, or Big 12 schools also wanted.

Let's see how the 2013 class stacks up and which of these conferences our recruits had offers from. For guys marked with a B1G offer, it came from a B1G school other than Minnesota:

1. Campbell: SEC, Big 12
2. Carter: SEC, Big 12, B1G, ACC
3. Dixon: SEC, B1G, ACC
4. Edwards: B1G, Pac 12
5. Ekpe: B1G
6. Hinojosa: B1G, ACC
7. Jones: SEC, ACC
8. Laster: B1G, Big 12, ACC
9. Mayes: Big 12, Pac 12
10. McGhee: None
11. Myrick: None
12. Peppers: SEC, B1G
13. Salzwedel: None
14. Santoso: None
15. Streveler: None
16. Wilson: Big 12
17. Wipson: None
18. Wolitarsky: Pac 12
19. Wozniak: B1G, Big 12, ACC

12 of the 19 recruits had offers from the B1G, SEC, or Big 12. If you include the Pac 12, 13 of 19. Given that what Kill had to sell was a 3-9 season and what he accomplished at other schools, I'm not sure how much more could be expected. This year, he should be able to sell the improvement we saw last year, so it should be a better class. Avg. stars/offer lists will be better, even though our ranking in the B1G probably won't jump significantly since we're only taking around 15 recruits.

To go further...

- Wipson, Salzwedel, and Streveler all committed well before the start of their senior years.
- Jalen Myrick had an offer from Georgia Tech (it never got reported on Rivals).

O. Salzwedel played his high school yrs as a Golden Beaver of Beaver Dam.

re wolitarsky- the most prolific wr in CA HS history has got to have the chops.

Okay, I'll be the optimist ...ha I say we have 8 "solid/soft" verbals by the start of fall camp.

Historically, if a player commits to us this early, he's either a local kid or he has a limited offer list. Go back for as long as they've been keeping track of recruiting and you'll find this to usually be true. A kid in Texas with a ton of offers may give us consideration, but unless he grew up a Gophers fan for some extremely unlikely reason, there's little chance he's going to commit himself to us without taking a few visits in the fall at least.

Considering we right now only have 3 local kids with offers (4 if you count Wisconsin-border recruit Elmore and not counting Jones), I'd say 4 with multiple offers by the end of the month is unlikely.

I think either a push or under, with 3 the most likely number, 2 will be instate kids that don't have offers yet.

One week in and nobody has committed in June. 3 weeks left and I am still an optimist, the University of Minnesota wants to be the pre-eminent football power on both sides of the ball in rushing, passing and special teams. Can't wait to see the commitments roll in.

Have we had any camps or visitors in the last 7 days? I expect things won't start happening for another two weeks.

the under for all of the above reasons. If they really want to get difference makers, especially at DB, LB, and WR, it will not be in June.

Okay, that is one recruit. Solid 4 start for the Kill recruiting regime for the year.
3 more to go for the month of June.

That is number 2 for the month, and the month is a little more than half over. I am holding firm at 4 recruits this month. And, with C.M. on board, this class is really shaping up to be the best in decades. Jerry Kill is putting the hammer down!

Ski U Mah!

One weekend left to get the number above 2. And if we were only going to get 2, I'm happy with Mayes and Elmore. I'll go with an over/under for July of 3. Guys are even less likely to be picking as summer camps are open and they are concentrating on starting fall ball. According to Rivals, last year we had 3 commits in June, 2 in July, 1 in August and none in September.
