This was the worst game under the Pitino era. Learning for everyone, including young Richie.
*Little of Mason in 2nd half?
*Relied on Seniors who were playing like Crap. Needs to roll with the hot hand and the players who are playing good regardless of year/class
*Elliot should have been benched after the technical. He looked awful. Konate could not have been much worse and at least gotten experience.
*Take the positives from the game---- Mason, Some of King, and cream the Bull Dogs Friday

I just watched the second half. Looked like St. John's wanted it more, was more athletic. We have a long way to go if we hope to finish in the top half of the b10

I think the rabid NYC pro SJU crowd may have intimidated the seniors. That is the only explanation of for two senior guards and the great EE pissing and crapping this one down their legs.

Other notes:

EE cost us the game as far as I am concerned. Someone needs to tell him to shut his mouth, quit gesturing and pouting, or leave. Officials will not respond in any positive way to what this punk has been doing for years.

-#15 looks like he is stuck in mud, 70 pounds less or not, but I still like him better than EE.
-Mason looks like the senior
-our JC 6'5 guard #11 that I put a lot of expectations on likes to dribble with blinders on and plays a lot like JR Rider when it comes to team play and shot selection

Disagree somewhat with the out-coached part. Our guys played terrible basketball, and the vast majority of our timeouts had to be used to prevent a turnover rather than to change momentum. I completely agree that Eliason had no business in the game during crunch time, he can't score and that made him a major liability out there when we absolutely needed baskets. I fee like this was a game where the players simply didn't give Pitino many options in the second half. At some point you have to make a shot and stop committing ridiculous unforced turnovers. It wasn't like the Gophers had no answer for what St John's was doing, it's just that they didn't execute at all.

St. John's got every loose ball, especially if Morris had his hand in there.

Andre and Elliot were crying to the refs too much.

On a night like tonight when nothing was working, I was wondering if they might play both big men at the same time just to create an inside presence and better dominate the inside game. They had nothing else to lose because I don't believe they scored in the 2nd half as a team... at least it didn't seem like it.

Good call on the Squirrel you can tell he was JUCO last year... Dribbling with his head down no vision thinking shot first. He will get better. He rebounding fairly well tonight.

I agree EE should have been kept on the bench. Pitino took EE out but on the free throw Mo Walker did not box out and gave up a layup so he put EE right back in...

I expect the JC guard and young players will get better. I was very shocking that this team handled the pressure of the Louisville defense better than they dealt with a very shaky SJU team in front of maybe 4,000 very passive fans in NYC.

Hollins and the other 2-5 year veterans need to take this wake up call, because they really sucked tonight.

As coach I would propose to EE that he will be suspended for a game the next time he gets or T or I see him on film gesture or speak to any official unless prompted.

I think the McNeil problem affected the whole team. Tough to recover emotionally.

We got beat by an east coast style, quick paced team that can do that better than our current personnel can. It's why this team can still compete fine in the B1G, with improvement, but will struggle with quicker tourney type teams. You can see why 2015 guards with Mason are needed.

Having said that, terrible shooting spells defeat. 2d half was UGLY!

I seriously want to know why Pitino didn't play Mason much in the 2nd half.

Obviously you have to have one of the Dre's out there even though both stunk it up, so why not play Big Dre with Mason at the point? Little Dre was doing nothing except turning the ball over and trying to bowl a strike with the basketball. I mean what's up with rolling the ball to teammates? He did that twice, and both times, it was a turnover.

Mason was the reason the Gophers went on the first half run to take the lead... yet in the second half, he left both struggling Dre's in, instead of Mason.

I don't know what the team was thinking about in the second half, but it wasn't basketball. Hopefully they don't put garbage like that on the floor ever again this season. That was embarrassing.

Every word there is 100% correct. They were far more athletic and they wanted it more. End of story.

Mason has easily been our best player so far. Pretty crazy how little he played after a first half like that.

So frustrating to see the same issues with certain players:

EE committing insanely stupid fouls and bitching to the refs all the time. He literally just ran into the three point shooter.

Andre jacking up shots early in the possession that are just a step inside the three point line and dribbling around out of control. If I were an opposing guard with any quickness I would play Andre really close and go for the steal. It's scary every time he dribbles the ball a lot.

Morris also jacking up early shots that aren't open. It's too bad that there isn't going to be much accountability for that since we don't have enough players for him to not log a ton of minutes (regardless of his decision making).

Mo having the weakest hands of any player ever.

That second half was one of the more frustrating halves I can recall.

I agree. It's unbelievable that every time a ball in the vicinity of Walker and Andre is loose it goes to the other team. What a train wreck that game was. It made me think the U has stock in blood pressure medicine companies and is trying to make money for facilities that way. Or, wait, that has been for 30 years now.

Worst game for Andre and Elliot I have ever seen.

Elliot is a baby.
1. Bad Technical
2. Bad Pass followed by a foul on the dunk
3. Tackle a three point shooter in the corner
4. Miss the front end of a one on one
5. Miss the front end of a one on one again

Andre's list of errors is too long to write. He was a turnover machine, who couldn't shoot or finish at the rim. He was only efficient at picking up fouls? Zero leadership

Mason is our best player - obviously needs more minutes.
Do not pull Matheau when he gets two fouls
We are at our worse when we foul so much...
Make some bunnies and foul shots???
What has happened to Hollins? seems to be short on every shot...
Morris can either be very good or terrible - just like this team
When can we ever get a lead and expand it???

Mason was certainly the best player last night. We went into the half with a 9 point lead. They made adjustments and Pitino couldn't get the boys to counter. Some of this definitely has to be on Pitino as well.

We will see how the team responds. Can't begin to describe the level of anger flowing through my body while watching that half of bball.
