In old movie terms, the Gophers are looking for Our Man Flint - the one and only guy capable of getting the job done. However, in other movies, the situation was handled by a group of the best - the Magnificent Seven or The Dirty Dozen. If we're all drooling over Mullen and willing to pay him until the budget busts (a person who was a coordinator just a few short years ago), then why not get our own Mullen - a very top of the line coordinator - and give him the big bucks for his staff. Make it clear to him that his most important job will be putting together one of the best college football staffs in the country. (Including guys that can take over if he bolts for another job.) After all, sometimes a guy that's a great head coach suddenly isn't as great when he loses a coordinator who was really behind his success. And, a great staff could be better than a great coach (if we can't have both.)

I know there's been other talk about coordinators here, but hopefully this is a slightly different perspective. Just saying that with this approach a coordinator might not be as risky as we think, and with the promise to him that he can form a terrific staff, the job would be very attractive.

If you had to choose, which would you prefer: Our Man Flint or The Magnificent Seven?

James Coburn?

Too bad he's gone...would have made a great HC for the Gophers!
