This is not a bash on the student section. However, there was some discussion earlier this season about things The Barnyard could do to get creative, etc. Not suggesting they steal these ideas verbatim, but I think things like this are great. Obviously this takes some coordination, but things like this would give the Barn a big edge. This is from Utah State. Incidently, Utah State is 17-1 at home this year!! What a student section.

Pregame Chant "I Believe That We Will Win."

Awesome Chant: Do you see the scoreboard? Yes, I see the scoreboard. Do you see the 74? Yes, I see the 74. Do you see the 62? Yes, I see the 62. Do you see the winning team? Yes, I see the winning team. Do you see the losing team? Yes, I see the losing team! Winning Team! Losing Team! Winning Team! Losing Team!

Wild Bill!!

Pregame Rituals.

"Up By 20!!! (opposing player clapping along!)

I have to give it up for those chants - they're pretty sweet. Impressed with the unison of the second chant considering all the words. Really impressed with whoever has the voice to be the "leader" of those chants.

LOL @ the dude clappin with the Up by 20 chant hahaha

WOW! amazing chants. i wish we could get the leaders at the barn to pull of something THIS epic.

So I take it someone went to Benilde 5 years ago, or stole these from the same source?

it would really be nice to have those nice seats they give to the student section rather than the oldies who dont do anything, if you notice, their band doesnt get the prime seats either, its actual students, the U gives their students the shaft and worries a little more about the cash

if only we had wild bill, the greatest fan in the history of the world, i still love our home court advantage, but it'd be more intimidating if they let some student go behind the visitor bench or at least around the court a little, like every single other college in america

Some things worth noting:

1. Winning team/losing team has been done by everyone and their brother. If Ohio University does it it's become lame, IMHO.

2. In the "Wild Bill" video, the shooters went 3 for 3 from the line. At that point it's just some guy who was stuck in the caf for 3 years.

Also worth noting - winning team/losing team has not been done by everyone. I've NEVER seen it in any Big Ten venue and I've been to all of them. Also worth noting, the "Wild Bill" isn't about just trying to get a guy to miss a FT. It is about building enthusiasm for the entire section for the entire game.

As I said, I'm not suggesting the students steal these verbatim. But, certainly our students can come up with something a tad more clever and creative than the wildly overused "OH-VER-RATED" chant which I heard vs. Wisconsin this year or the "THESE REFS SUCK" chant which I heard vs. Northwestern this year, or, even the "F*@K BO RYAN" chant. Can't they?

If it's about "building enthusiasm for the section," then the three chants you mentioned did the trick.

It's also not about coming up with something clever but organizing the entire unmotivated section to do it. I hear clever comments all the time but they never get past the first few rows.

So, the Utah State kids are more motivated and organized. That's all we need to know.

I was not trying to get into a bashfest on the Barnyard. My hope was that the Barnyard would someday get motivated and organized to the point that Utah State is. That's a sweet student section that offers an obvious homecourt edge. Call me crazy for thinking that someday maybe the Barnyard would get a "yell leader" who is clever, motivated, and organized who could lead some great student cheers throughout a game. But, apparently there are too many unmotivated students at Minnesota or maybe they just won't allow such things.

It seems like any time I see a team on TV with decent cheers, their student section gets much better seats. Is Minnesota the only team that puts its students solely at the end of the court or is that fairly common and I'm just not seeing it very often?

Here's what I can remember from several visits over the past several years. Some could have changed:

Ohio State - end zone student section
Wisconsin - end zone student section
Illinois - end zone student section
Purdue - end zone student section
Iowa - end zone student section
Indiana - end zone student section
Northwestern - end zone student section
Penn State - not much of a student section, so don't know
Michigan State - student section surrounds court
Michigan - student section surrounds half the court

everyone knows that Michigan State has the best student section and best student section setup in the big slow
