Why didn't OSU self-impose a bowl ban last year while muddling through a mediocre season? If they had they'd likely be in the national title conversation right now.

Don't disagree with that, but are you saying that a 10-0 Ohio State team with that name recognition wouldn't be in the conversation with Oregon, Notre Dame, Kansas State, and 1-lossers Alabama and Georgia (among others)? Stupid, stupid decision by Smith and all the higher-ups at OSU to not just bag the bowl game last year when they were in the midst of a 6-7 season. Their arrogance got in the way.

Their president has spent $64,000 dollars on BOWTIES. Good judgement is not something taught on the campus of THE Ohio State University.

Haha. A Maturi-like decision. Last year was a throw away, they should have cut losses.

I see this mentioned a lot, but I doubt the NCAA would let them off that easy, allowing OSU to choose a lesser punishment after the regular season, knowing they had a terrible record (by OSU standards) and throwaway bowl (by OSU standards). Now if they had a chance to go to a BCS bowl last year and self-imposed the ban, maybe the NCAA would let that suffice.

Alabama and Georgia are ranked ahead of them in the AP. How is that not an SEC bias? Here's the OOC schedules:
OSU:Miami (OH), UCF, UAB, Cal
Alabama:Michigan, W. Kentucky, FAU, W. Carolina
Georgia: Buffalo, FAU, Georgia Southern, GT

I must be missing the difference in the OOC schedules. Add to this that Notre Dame's schedule is not much different than that of OSU's.

I am holding back my rant on the 5 SEC teams in both polls.

ESPN: OSU AD won't play 'what-if' game

"The decisions that we made relative to our NCAA case we made to the best of our abilities with the information in front of us," Smith said during a news conference Monday. "I am not into speculative positioning in life, I'm just not one of those guys relative to those kind of what-if scenarios.

"I could sit here and give you a million other what-ifs had we taken that (self-imposed bowl ban). I'm not going there."
