I will update this as I did the thread on Hawkins’ assist journey last season.

According to ESPN he is tied with Glendon Miller from Maryland for the B10 lead and a plethora of other DBacks for second, while the leader is from Cal, Nohl Williams with 6, nationwide.

B10.org, shows Perich with 4 and Miller with 3. I went with ESPN, as they show the game logs for all players and B10 stats do not.

I really hope the SID gets on this and starts pushing it, so Koi ends up being Freshman AA.

I wonder where he would stand for interceptions per snap played...
Exactly. This is the first game he went into a game as a starter...

I'll keep saying it. He's hungry boy and keeps finishing everything they put on his plate.
He's gonna need a bigger plate!

It official and confirmed this morning on both ESPN & B10 sites, that Koi Leads the B10 in INTs and is tied for second nationally.

Worthy of a GH Tweet, right @GopherLady ?

This makes me wonder if/when the Gophers have ever had a true freshman All-Conference football player? So, I put it out to the GH football historians, which lad/lads have achieved this pinnacle, or would this be a coveted “first” for the program?

He looks like a man among boys at times. Looks like Joey Browner out there, but he’s just a freshman. Fantastic get for Minnesota.
I like the comparison. As an aside, remember Jerry Burns seeing Joey's wife and with his eyes bugged out saying "That's the Mrs?"

How much did Koi even play in the first 3 games?
Kick return, punt return, special teams coverage, and a handful of plays regular defense. His first two interceptions were in the bank when he had seen 10-15 balls in the air.

Then he goes to the sidelines and takes his helmet off and looks like a boy among men. It's the makings of a legend.

Punts to 3 are must see! I get so excited when he has a shot - believe he is going to the house every time and FYI - so does 3.
Yeah after his first couple moves he turned on the after burners. What a return. Place went 🍌s. Can't imagine how it would have been had he scored. Had to smile on the one return where he did the high step move to try to freeze the defender.

Gophers DB Koi Perich named FWAA Freshman POY candidate

Perich, who leads all FBS freshmen with four interceptions, is one of five midseason candidates for the defensive award.

Koi Perich’s amazing freshman campaign has made his a candidate for another major award.

On Thursday, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) named the Minnesota Gophers defense back as one of 10 players on its Freshman Player of the Year award watch list. The FWAA gives an award each year to the top offensive and defensive freshman in college football, so Perich is one of five midseason candidates for the defensive award.

Extra points for 4 of his INTs coming in Big Ten games, and not being full of stat padding against shitty overmatched non-con teams.

Update on Koi’s Quest, from the original and therefore official Interception Thread.

None against the Fighting Bilema’s, but he still leads the B10 and is tied for second nationally in FBS.

The 👃smells a theft or two in Jersey; things fall off trucks all the time there😉

Koi is still leading the B10 in INTS and is tied for second non the nation.

He’s gonna snag at least two over the next two weeks and end up leading the conference - BOOK IT

We need a great game from Koi and his defensive teammates to steal one from PSU a la 2019! Go Gophers, beat PSU.
