Oregon recruit poses in picture with a bong

this picture was taken while he was on the recruiting trip and he initially tweeted the photo out and then deleted the tweet. all that being said it looks like he had a good and probably normal recruiting trip.

Yeah. Most of us can only dream about what that would be like being a top athlete being heavily recruited by the schools where they roll out the red carpet and treat you like a god while you are on campus. Would be cool to be able to go back and experience something like that.

Doesn't say a lot for the kids judgement to get a picture taken with a bong in clear view and then to make it worse by tweeting it out. Doesn't matter if you delete it once you put it out there, there is no real way to pull it back.

So Devoe Joseph is still hanging around out there?

Not to get on a soapbox, but weed should be legal anyway. If it was a beer, nobody would care (I'm not sure anyone really cares here either)

I think they would care - underage drinking while you're a guest of the university. That's a big deal.

If he didn't think it was a big deal, why did he take it down from his Twitter Account?

No it's not. I drank on a campus visit when I was a senior in high school and paid a $200 fine. Nothing was ever said about it again. You think they don't actively push the players to take recruits to clubs and such while they are on visits? Please.

Do me the favor of not speaking for me. I care - I wouldn't want anyone on my team who would do something so moronic.

It's one thing to engage in a variety of different activities, legal or not. It's entirely another thing to be stupid enough to put it on the WORLD WIDE WEB. It absolutely boggles my mind how galactically stupid some of these people can be. It's frightening...

It's stupid no doubt. But, as you said, you already operate under the assumption that most 18 year old kids (or just people in general) do a lot of really stupid things. Nothing about this should be surprising to anyone.

+1,000,000 everyone knows that smoking pot, drinking, or any other number of activities are going on. Bottom line is that some of those activities are illegal still so it is just idiotic to put that out there for the world to see.

You would have to be unbelievably naive not to know what goes on during these recruiting visits but it is not something that you put out there to the general public especially with illegal activities involved.

A close friend of mine has a 19-year old in college, parents are fairly rigid and wouldn't approve of her drinking. She's tremendously bright, 3.8 GPA. She has been posting pictures on Facebook of her drinking at parties, but she blocks her parents from those pictures, but apparently neglects the fact that they all have a BOATLOAD of common friends and whenever she posts pictures like this, it gets back to the parents immediately.

Again, it's tough to fathom just how little common sense there is out there with many of today's college students, and many of them are actually fairly bright, at least from an educational standpoint. Further evidence that Book Smart does NOT equal savvy or Street Smart.

From the looks of the pic, he won't be going to a school that plays on artificial turf. Gotta play on grass man!

I'm 16 and I can honestly say that 50 % of kids my age smoke weed, drink alcohol, do other drugs, etc.

Not saying it makes it right, because it obviously doesn't, and I choose not to get near that type of stuff, but the fact is, whether you want to hear it or not... Probably half, if not more of these HS/Collegiate athletes smoke, drink, or do drugs.

But that doesn't make it ok.

Alert the media. Not the point.

I contacted the mother of a student who lives in that dorm room. She called her daughter and was told that it was just a glass vase to put the flowers in for her botany class. Talk about a misunderstanding.

People tend to think of themselves as normal, so people who abstain think most people are like them, and people who approve of underage drinking and pot smoking think most people are like them.

I think you're confusing "approve" with "acknowledge as being reality". I don't approve of people who have affairs, but I also understand that they are a fact of life. I don't approve of people who talk on their cell phone while driving, but I don't *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# my pants every time I see someone doing it.

This kid had a picture taken with a bong in front of him. Ok.....and? Seriously, and? What's even remotely newsworthy about this? I'm sure recruits have done lines of coke off of strippers before. This is such a total non-issue that it's almost insulting to everyone's intelligence that some people are trying to make it into something. I'd be shocked if there are no recruits who smoke weed with players/hosts on any of our visits. If they were getting that weed from Coach Kill...that would be newsworthy.

The kid was a moron for posting it. However, the bigger issue would be that the university is sponsoring events for recruits with weed. That said, can we just legalize it already?

PRICELESS.

First off let me say I totally agree this is a non-story. It is one of those things that goes on, everyone knows it goes on, and there is no point trying to stop it.

In general the coaches turn a blind eye to what the player hosts due with the recruits the moment the coaches portion of the visit ends and the player host takes over. As long as those guys are smart they are told to make sure the recruit has a great time whether that means strip clubs, parties, drinking, girls, or whatever. That being said I would think most coaches would not want their players or the recruits smoking Weed during the visit because from the player standpoint they could fail a drug test and if they get busted it would reflect badly on the University because people still view weed different then drinking.

"Marijuana is not a drug. I used to suck dick for coke. You ever suck some dick for marijuana?"

Not to attack you here Gopherprof, but you are missing the point completely. The fact that he is smoking weed is hardly a big deal at all, but being foolish enough to publicly post a picture says a lot about his judgment.
