I'm aware this game was against USD and that it was supposed to be an easy win for us, but that does not excuse the roughly 30-40% of season ticket seats that were empty for the start of the game as well as the whole first half. I was sitting on the home side (sec 235) so I have a hard time gauging the entire home sideline seats, but from what I could tell on the away side, both decks were no more than 60-70% full.

For a home opener on a beautiful day, too early to be raking leaves, too late to be going to the cabin, there is no excuse for that many seats open. ESPECIALLY in the seats that cost so much money.

While the student section didn't sell all 10k of their seats (word is around 8,000), they showed up in near full force despite the 11 am time and also stayed throughout the game and were in to it as well.

Can anyone explain why so many people paid $275 + $500 donation to not show up to a game like this???

Because unlike most major college football games the University more or less discourages tailgating around the stadiums. Yeah there are a few spots but nothing like at Madison, Illinois or Iowa or any Big 12/SEC school. So lots of folks wont come out and enjoy the atmosphere., unless its a 'big or good' game.

Did you not use your season tickets due to this reason?

If it was a crappy (expected lopsided win) game and there wasnt a good party, then no. I would watch on TV.

I'm curious as to where all the big tailgate lots are right around Camp Randall. Clearly, you haven't been there.

I'll tell you why. People weren't excited about this program. I was there, and I stayed until the bitter (and oh, was it bitter) end. But I can't blame anybody who stayed home. It was (on paper) going to be one of two things. A blowout win against a terrible opponent, or one of the worst losses in program history. It was the latter. Again, I was there. I'm not going to miss any games the rest of the year. Don't call me a bandwaggoner. But I honestly can't blame anybody for deciding to do something else with their day.

I didn't ask what you "would" do. What did you do? Did you choose not to use your season ticket because you feel that the tailgating is inadequate?

The idea of an unused ticket has angered me for years for every type of event. Find someone else to go in your place.

The team stumbled into and lost a bowl game last year. We opened up against an FCS opponent. How are people surprised about this? I was out of town for a wedding this weekend and had trouble giving away my tickets.

seriously, who wants to go? i couldn't give away my tickets if i included a free lap dance.

i think you may be slightly overestimating the appeal of gopher football.
