Behind Ohio St, Michigan, MSU, Iowa, and Penn St. The Omaha World-Herald's Sam McKewon, in his B10 Power Ratings, adds, "Kudos to P.J. Fleck for finding ways to win at Purdue and over Nebraska, back to back...he wins tight games, too." Interestingly, Frost and players are saying they outplayed Minnesota in the second half, while many Gopher fans thought the Gopher offense went into a shell after two interceptions, leading to a series of three-and-outs. The Gophers stopped passing on first and second downs, which had moved the ball so well in drives in the first half.

Many Nebraska fans seem to think they were only a play away.
But when Minnesota was needing to run out the clock, they still scored.

Two Ints and being backed up on the 1 kinda killed 3 drives.
Pretty vanilla play calling the rest of the way while playing with a lead.

They were a play or two away from winning, but we were a play or two away from winning by several scores.

They may have been a play away -- the onside kick. Would anybody bet their house that Martinez, given the ball at mid-field with a minute to play would not have pulled a double rabbit out of the had and scored both a TD and 2-point conversion to win the game?

Rossi had a magnificent plan and has built a great defense. Let's hope he learned a valuable lesson Saturday. Don't go soft prevent with a 2-score lead. Keep doing what you did all game.

i would've happily bet the house on the gophers at that point. Rossi has shown he gets more aggressive in those situations rather than playing shell (see PSU late pick to seal game) and with pressure, Martinez folds (see his glorious safety). I personally hate playing the shell even when up 2-3 scores. keep the pressure on. the fastest way to run out the clock is to get the ball back. you can still play press man with 2 deep safeties while rushing 4 and not get beat deep the same as playing bullshit prevent and giving up 8-10 yards a play without any difficulty

Huh? The onsides kick wasn't the play. It was the 4th down goal line play. Could have turned the momentum of the game, put the Gophers down, and changed the way the offense played.

And the onsides kick is one play. Can't be a play away from winning if you need the onsides kick.....and then an offensive scoring drive too.
 

Cherry picking particular plays going the other way is a fun, but futile exercise. If a play in the third quarter goes the other way, NONE of the succeeding plays occur. Time is linear, not like Back to the Future.

Its like when someone says “He almost made a great play!” He didn’t make a great play. Nothing happened.

And weren't the Huskers the beneficiaries of a very soft roughing the passer call on Mafe during their last scoring drive? I forget.
 




I think most are pointing to the Martinez run being close to a TD and the 4th and goal.
Idea being that the defense was playing better, and they would have had the lead.

But if they score there, they have the lead, and Minnesota doesn't have a 3 and out working from underneath the goal posts. MN is down 23-21 and gets the ball on the 25, and maybe uses their passing game again vs playing Tressel ball.

They just seem to think that once they would have gotten the lead, they would have had the win.

The last time Nebraska had a lead on Minnesota, it lasted for less than a minute-45 of game time.
 

This the same dude who said Nebraska would be undefeated heading into their game against Iowa?
 

Don't take your foot off the pedal when the opponent is down! Bad things happen when you get into a prevent shell.
