Definitely one of those things that on the surface looks odd. Early season conference standings hinge so much on who you have played so far.First thread started on GopherHole! Longtime lurker and seldom poster. My friend pointed out this unusual stat that I felt needed sharing with the Hole. Go Gophers!

Yeah, these super sized conferences make conference standings more irrelevant due to the unbalanced schedules.Standings don't count until 12 games have been played. Then they still don't count for teams that don't go to the Conference Championship game, because some folks in a room will determine who goes on to play more games.
It's the byproduct of 16+ team unbalanced conferences. I saw a scenario yesterday where 6 SEC teams could tie at 6-2.
That would be the best. But money talks I guess.Yeah, these super sized conferences make conference standings more irrelevant due to the unbalanced schedules.
To me, a 10 team conference where everyone plays each other once is ideal. But sadly those days appear long gone in college football. At least at the major conferences.
Yeah, it's not crazy at all to rank Ohio State #4 while not ranking WI, even though WI has a better conference winning percentage at this point (with it from beating the cupcakes you listed).Sconnie sitting there at 3-1 with wins over Purdue, Rutgers and Northwestern. Good chance they slip pretty quickly over the next 3 weeks when they play Penn State, Iowa and Oregon.
I understand where the snark is coming from, but they are determining it by said teams' body of work over 3 months.Standings don't count until 12 games have been played. Nebraska could easily lose 4 of 5 too. At Ohio St, USC and Iowa. Home games against WI and UCLA.Definitely one of those things that on the surface looks odd. Early season conference standings hinge so much on who you have played so far.

Actually looking at Wisconsin's remaining schedule is interesting.
3 home games left - Penn State, Oregon, and Us
2 road trips to tough road environments in Iowa and Nebraska.
They probably won't, but could see a pretty easy scenario where they lose all 5 of those games.
That would be awesome to see them miss out on a bowl (AGAIN!) after starting 5-1 and thinking Rhule has righted the ship.Nebraska could easily lose 4 of 5 too. At Ohio St, USC and Iowa. Home games against WI and UCLA.
If they somehow miss a bowl again the meltdown would be epic. Don't think it will happen as they should win at least 1 more over the remainder of the season. That would be awesome to see them miss out on a bowl (AGAIN!) after starting 5-1 and thinking Rhule has righted the ship.
