The Gophers have received a commitment from Cincinnati, Ohio cornerback Tamarion Crumpley. The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back held offers from Maryland, Kentucky, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and others, according to 24/7 Sports.

Crumpley, a three-star prospect, is the third defensive back to join the 2021 class. Minnesota recently received commitments from four-star cornerbacks Steven Ortiz Jr. and Avante Dickerson. Crumpley brings another type of skill set to the table.

He has the athletic profile and size to be a physical press-man corner for the Gophers. Crumpley can jam players on the perimeter and redirect routes. He consistently made plays on the ball and features the size/length to get into passing lanes. One of my favorite clips below is at the 3:37 mark. Crumpley not only swiftly transitioned from backpedal to opening his hips, but he tightly mirrored the wide receiver. He then finished the play by using his length to break up the pass.

I like hearing that it appears he has ability to press and be physical. you need these types of guys. was one of the things I loved watching about Mich St defenses in the past. They'd press the hell out of the WRs and make them uncomfortable. Kills timing. Wisconsin did this to some extent to us in our game against them (weather and refs obviously helped a ton). But it can really change how a team plays against you if you have some of these physical guys who can chuck people coming off the ball.
 









If my group really takes a strong liking to this guy, will we be referred to as “Crumpley-er Old Men”?

Ohio cornerback Tamarion Crumpley reopened his recruitment Tuesday.

The 6-foot, 175-pound three-star prospect announced his decision on social media. Crumpley originally committed to the Gophers on April 20, one of the many players to choose the Gophers during the moratorium on in-person recruiting amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Gophers have had a few recent decommits: defensive end D'Marion Alexander last week, athlete Sam Jackson switched to Purdue in early June, and defensive tackle Albert Regis opened his recruitment at the end of May.

But the Gophers' 2021 class still has 15 members, ranking 15th nationally and fifth in the Big Ten, per 247Sports.com.

Three* vs 4* is meaningless at this stage of young players development but what is not meaningless in the best of times is depth.
It is even more important in a pandemic.
Losing those committed players has to hurt a bit.

whether this is a positive or a negative depends on the quality of the player who eventually takes that scholarship. if Fleck recruits Joe Stud, it's a positive. if he recruits Joe Dud, it's a negative.

That's why it's so hard to truly evaluate classes until kids are signed.

I like to evaluate classes before anyone has signed. For example, class of 2036 will be 8th in the nation, 2nd in the B1G (believe it or not, Illinois is a hotbed at that point).
