Oglesby update

Both Illinois boards are reporting that Josh Oglesby has cancelled his visit to Champaign, which I assume means he is down to Arizona St., Iowa and Minnesota. The source appears to this premium Scout article:

Rob Howe's twitter says that Illinois is the one who pulled Oglesby's offer. The only reason I can think of is that they must think they are in good shape with Chasson Randle. I really like Oglesby as a player but Randle fits the need of playing point also. I just hope that Illinois does not end up with neither. :) I am definitely not a "we didn't want him anyway" poster. I think he is a heck of a player.

From Oglesby's point of view, Illinois is pretty crowded at the two guard: DJ Richardson, Brandon Paul, Jereme Richmond, Crandall Head, Joseph Bertrand.

Update: hawkeyeinsider is now saying that Oglesby has confirmed that Illinois pulled his offer. Hmmm.

so will we be if hollins wants to come here (crowded at sg, josh would be a nice replacement for Hoff, but we need a PG. Illnois has all those athletic slasher types but doesnt have a shooter after mccamey, Tisdale, and cole leave. They are left with some good shooters, but they wont have a deibler or hoffarber, or Oglesby. If i were them i wouldve wanted oglesby more than another slasher who they have the same of 3 times over (Paul, Head, Bertrand). To each his own

Both Oglesby and Hollins are combo (1/2) guards. Coleman is a wing (2/3) player.

Oglesby may be a combo guard, but I think he's much closer to a SG than he is a PG. I would think he would struggle being a primary PG for an extended period at the Big 10 level.

Agreed. But he played lots of PG in AAU play this past summer.

Something tells me the defense on the AAU circuit, even the competition the Barnstormers played against, is a little bit different than the Big 10.

"Illinois decided it was going to recruit Oglesby to play point guard with a deep group of twos already in-house or committed. The Illini staff came to open gym and didn’t view Oglesby as a quick enough player to run the show."

Oglesby isn't a B10 PG. I've seen him play HS ball. Spot minutes, sure.

Per Twitter:
Guard Josh Oglesby will announce his decision between Arizona St, Iowa & Minnesota on Wednesday at his school. #fb

It'll be nice to get early closure on this guy.

Oglesby Announcement on Wednesday

After reading the threads on these boards and the answers Josh provided during his interviews, I think it would be shocking to see him commit anyplace other than Iowa. I'm still hopeful, but realistically it looks like this has been his lifelong dream to play for the team he grew up watching and cheering for.

Based on his interview on this website, Iowa seems like the favorite. I can't blame him for following his childhood dream.

Hopefully he pulls a Uthoff and goes to a Rival :)

DJ Richardson is a very good three point shooter. However, the one to watch is Mychael Henry. He is a 6-6 kid who is an outstanding shooter. He is the shooter of the class. Abrams is also a good three point shooter. Paul was a good three point shooter in high school, but he got the freshman yips last year after a strong start. I expect him to shoot it better.

And Tyler Griffey is the second best shooter on the team this year after Tisdale. He is a pure shooter. I am not that worried about shooting. They will score. imo

henry is the shooter of the class? umm no, Oglesby, jesperson, connaugton, Beal, rivers, those guys are shooters,
