I am frustrated. I really thought we had this game.

I didn't catch every play of the 2nd half, but did it seem like we gave up on the run? Every time I looked Leidner was throwing. Every other one of those was a pick...

Total meltdown in playcalling when the game was still in the balance. We'd been gashing them fairly regularly, and gave up on the run. Also, WI seemed to know run/pass each play in the 2nd half. We must have had a serious "tell" issue out there. Outcoached.

We "gave up on the run" because there were 8 in the box and they dared us to pass. Mitch and Still killed us for very different reasons

Running with 8 in the box hasn't stopped us before... oh to be a gopher fan.

I'm mad at myself. I knew at half time I should quit watching and move on with my day. I wouldn't have been surprised by the final score and I wouldn't have to have lived it. But I made the huge mistake of letting myself believe in this team. What a mistake that was. Glad the season is over. I don't much care who we play in the bowl and I'm sure I'll watch out of curiosity, but there is no chance I'd go pay to watch this team...

First time since about 1990 that I did not go to Madison and couldn't be happier with my decision! Yes, I'm a sloooooooow learner!

Caught Claey's interview on the radio post-game show. Basically, he just kept saying, "We played hard. Can't make turnovers against a good team." He did criticize Leidner for the 1st interception - said he should have played it safe and thrown the ball away. But, he just kept repeating the "can't make turnovers" line. Not the most articulate person in the world. And, when asked to sum up the season, he said "8 wins is a good season."

For what it's worth - the post-game show normally goes close to an hour - they do highlights, interviews from the locker room, and a discussion/analysis of the game. Today- entire post-game show went about 35 minutes tops - easily the shortest one of the year. Curious.

Perhaps a meeting with his boss shortened things a bit?

We're up 17-10 and have the ball 3rd and goal at their 5 yard line. What the f is Leidner doing throwing that ball? Kick the FG and go up 20-10 and it's a completely different game.

Johnson called possibly the worst game in college football history in the 2nd half. I thought the staff said after Iowa we learned our lesson and vowed to stick with the run? Brooks averaged 4.1 ypc and got 9 touches. Smith didn't get nearly enough carries. No read option in the 2nd half. Instead, we resort to the biggest weakness on our team, the deep passing game. All season long, even when we were in 2nd and 8 or 9, we would often run to get 3-4 yards and setup 3rd and 4/5. We completely abandoned that in the 2nd half. It was almost like Becky's coaching staff was calling our plays. The play calling couldn't have been any worse.

KFAN had the Wild game to broadcast. It is amazing the short shrift the Gophers get from them. I would have thought there would be plenty for callers to vent about this game.

John Galt's post was 100 percent correct. Jay Johnson and that awful pic in the end zone is what really caused this meltdown.

I just about threw a chair at the TV when "Bad Mitch" made his inevitable reappearance and threw that awful interception in the end zone.

In my heart I knew better, that a TD was probably needed to have any hope of holding on and 20-10 lead would probably not be enough, but it still destroyed all momentum. I half though/ hoped that our defense could hold up with a 20-10 lead and if the running game could kill some clock. The fact that the defense hung in there for four quarters against what has been a very active and explosive Northwestern last week gave me some hope.

Right before the play I said to the two cats sitting next to me, that we either needed to hand the ball of to Brooks, or let Mitch take one look and if it was not there throw it into the seats. Instead he threw the predictable pic, and the two cats were quickly exiting the living room.

Mitch and Jay Johnson pretty much made anything the defense did or did not do irrelevant

This one hurt

I PVRed the game. Usually I avoid the score but today I kept checking. Somehow less depressing than watching. How sad is that. Now watching Detroit-Montreal in hockey (don't care who wins) and happy with my decision.

This one stung fellas. Out adjusted in the 2nd half again.

We don't have the depth on D to continue running them out onto the field after consecutive 3 and outs and/or turnovers. It was not adjustment they made so much as the logical conclusion to a very poor QB putting the team in horrible position after horrible position. If ML does better than 2-14 passing in the 2nd half, it keeps the Badgers honest on D and enables us to keep running. He couldn't...which is is expected because he never has.

Such a strange game. 1st half the team could do almost nothing wrong, in the 2nd half they could do almost nothing right. So frustrating to see a great opportunity to spring the upset go by the wayside. No real shame in losing to a very good Wisconsin team but so frustrating to watch the team just completely fall apart in the second half like that.

leidner.

What were Leidner's numbers in the 2nd half? Something like 2-15 with 4 picks? That's about as bad a half of football as anyone could possibly have.

Agree although we don't know if the pick on the throw to Carter was his fault or Carter's because they were clearly not on the same page on that one.

Once the team decided to abandon the run the Wisconsin defense decimated our offensive line. Mitch was awesome in the first half and along with the rest of the offense was complete garbage in the second half.

I could have worse half, but that is not saying much.

We were on their 14, but yes, you are correct. Just like the game two years ago changed on the BS Olson penalty, this game changed when Leidner tried to force it on 3rd and 9 from the 14. Run a draw up the middle, get the first if we're lucky, or take the 3 and a 2-score lead with about 6 minutes left in the 3rd. Instead, we turn the ball over and the rest of the game is an absolute disaster.

At least we beat the skunks in volleyball tonight.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I literally could not give two ****s about the volleyball team - men or women (I assume we have a men's team). It is the AD putting emphasis on these 'feel good' sports that appeal to 0.1% of the student body/alumni that have made our feature sports into what they are today. Minnesota's AD needs to set the example for the nation by stating 'gender is a social construct' and gutting female athletic programs and redirecting the money into revenue neutral/positive enterprises. I don't understand how the University can take the social construct stand in every way BUT when it comes to athletics.

Minnesota volleyball routinely draws 5,000+ to games. That's a hell of a lot more than 0.1%. No, we don't have men's volleyball. Putting effort into non-revenue sports doesn't preclude your ability to compete in revenue sports.

I would tell you to stop posting about topics in which you're ignorant, but that would mean you wouldn't ever be able to post. Actually - yes, let's stick with that plan.

We have continued to run against 7or 8 in the box all season. If we're going to lose, at least go down knowing they stopped our best options. The way our defense was playing, any additional points may have been the difference as long as we don't turn it over. All we needed to do was play a field position game in the 4th quarter.

First of all if you were a real Gopher fan you would know what teams the university has. I support all of the Gopher teams. You should see the atmosphere at the PAV. If you were to cut sports like you suggest you would not be in the Big Ten. Most major universities have the sports that we offer. It is an embarrassment that Wisconsin does not have a baseball team. I am not sure I would describe volleyball as a feel good sport. I would love you to be on the other side of the net when a ball hits you in the nads. I am not sure that would feel so good.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
