It's hard not to imagine what could have been, or what could be, with Muss roaming the sidelines vs his Dad's squad. This may be one of our better chances to beat USC, as Muss won't have them under .500 for long. Dude is perfect for coach for NIL era.

Johnson needs to find a way to split the LA games. Fleck swept.

He's had enough time to prepare, time to ball out.

GET 'ER DONE JOHNSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Memories of the 1980-81 season triggered by today’s USC game: Minnesota played USC in 1980 Winston Tire Classic semi-final at the decrepit LA Arena. I recall Jim Dutcher was passionately upset with the officiating (a rarity) but the Gophers beating USC setting-up one of the great Gopher wins of all time: 76-60 over UNC in the final with Tucker and Mitchell putting on a long range shooting exhibition. I recall reading a newspaper story that shortly after the game Dean Smith crossed paths with Bobby Knight at an airport and Smith asked him “if Minnesota always shot the ball that well”. The 1980-1981 team was super talented but subject to defensive lapses as with home court losses to Marquette and Ohio State and could lose focus in grinder games such as home court losses to Iowa and Indiana and the most frustrating of all: a double OT loss to Wisconsin at Madison in the Big Ten finale which cost the Gophers an NCAA tourney birth. In that game Dutcher got into a shouting match with a Badger assistant coach (another rarity). I listened to the game on the radio and Ray could not hide his exasperation with every element of the game as our tourney hopes slipped away.
