Iowa game was a winnable game, and for the most part was lost by the offense, this is one lost game, time to turn the page, it is still only one loss even if that sounds cliche.
Gophers had a lot of opportunity's to get back in the game if the Quarterback would have made some key throws and hit receivers in stride,
if the offensive line would have allowed more time perhaps those throws would have been on time or target. Iowa was good opponent not great, so the Gophers still have long ways
to go to develop this program. Defense played way to much football yesterday.
For the development of the Gopher program, scholarship guys were recruited for a reason in the O-line and need to play. IF the coaches are too stubborn to realize that
then the Big 10 season is going to be a long struggle to win more than 1 game.
For all of the knocks
on the Gopher defense, this game was lost on the offensive side of the ball we had 80 yards of offense in the first half and 85 yards in the second half and scored 7 points. Your not going to win many football games with that kind of production and lack of time of possession.
Phil Nelson was wildly inaccurate yesterday and used bad fundamentals he was constantly not setting his feet and squaring up to throw, far to many jump passes.
That said he was under duress all game and the offensive line did not do a good enough job of giving him time to make throws a lot of the game.
Until that change in the offensive line happens we will see the Big 10 defensive lines continue to dominate the Gophers O-line.
Were going to get out-muscled at center and right guard, and left tackle all year if we see them stay status quo, I don't care if they are better than the second guys at the moment
in the two deep we need to develop the recruited guys. For Cripes sakes Pirsig is so big, he will be hard to get around or move off the football, his size alone indicates he should likely be on the
football field.
If were going to see the Gophers take the next step, then Tommy Olson, Jonah Pirsig, and Foster Bush or Issac Hayes need to start playing some football.
Size matters in the Big 10 and those four guys have it. Campion is a better guard he doesn't have long enough arms to be the right tackle even
if he is really strong and a leader. I know the O-line didn't make the play calling by Limegrove happen but he believed this group could execute against Iowa's really good front seven
and they could not. I don't understand his stubborness in believing that we could run the ball right at Iowa, it was a flawed philosophy from the get go.
This is only going to get tougher as the season wears on, Iowa has a good defense but you could say that about most of the opponents the rest of the year.
