NY Times map of college football fans...shows MN needs to close the borders

There's already a thread for this, and it's clearly nonsense, at least for Minnesota. It's simply not plausible that the Twin Cities - let alone the rest of the state is secretly Badger Country. It's measuring Facebook likes, but if that really translated into which team is more popular, we would see other signs. T-shirts are a big one: we would expect to see more Badger shirts than Gopher shirts. But we don't, we see a lot more Gopher shirts than Badger shirts. If it demonstrates anything, it shows that the U needs to do a better job with social media.

Most of the map looks pretty plausible. The states with no FBS teams are skewed, because they ignore the local team. The map shows Duke football being dominant in most of North Carolina, but that doesn't seem likely. In that case, it may just be Duke BB fans also liking the Duke football Facebook page.

Sorry for the dup...should have scrolled further. Mods can delete.

BS data

The NY Times did an interactive map for college football teams like they did for MLB. The result? Not good for the Gophers. Becky actually "owns" the Twin Cities zip codes with Minnesota only controlling western Minnesota. This MUST change.

Their data for Minnesota is all wrong. It doesn't have Minnesota suport anywhere in the state that is higher than 10-15%. It says the support for the gophers is just as high (10%) in Fargo as it is in the Twin Cities. It even has the St Cloud as Oregon Ducks over the U!!!! BS data makes BS conclusions.

The one thing I found the most relevant is the support for Gopher football and college football in general through the majority of the state is pathetic. It's pretty much an after thought for most people in Minnesota. Even in areas where Becky and Hogeyes scored the majority, the numbers are pretty low. Contrast that with other areas where a team gets 70% or better. It's pretty clear those areas follow college football to a greater extent.

Colorado looks similar to Minnesota. Colorado is the 1 state that I think is most similar to Minnesota in regards to college sports fandom.

This feels accurate to me. The apathy toward Gopher football in this state is enormous.
