Maybe this is the week that the Gophers can finally get to the Quarterback?
Wisconsin sacked NU quarterbacks seven times Saturday, and even worse, that matched the Badgers' total from their first five games. And those opponents included Massachusetts, Tennessee Tech, Purdue and pass-happy Arizona State, which attempted 51 throws.
Fitzgerald called NU's offensive performance an "anomaly," and maybe he's right. But the sack total wasn't, when you consider Ohio State dropped Trevor Siemian five times. NU's 19 sacks allowed are the most in the Big Ten.
"I understand that sacks always get put on the O-line, but it's a 12-man operation," Fitzgerald said, the 12th man being the coaches designing the schemes and calling the plays.
"There are some things that the O-line has to do better, but the quarterback has to get the ball out of his hands on time and the receivers have to get open when the concept calls for them to get open. And there are times when all we had to do was throw the ball away, and it's not a sack."
