Now Youngblood reports Brewster discussing extension

I get it. This turned into the soap opera channel!

The athletic departmant is a laughingstock. They belong on Springer or something. Maybe just throw a big tent over the Bierman Building and Williams Arena and get some dancing bears and elephants and acrobats.....

No doubt. If I were Bruinicks or a Regent, I'd be pissed. Maturi should be embarrassed. It's at the point of being comical.

Brewster bluffed-Maturi called.........at least that's what I thought this morning.

"Maturi would not comment on the issue"

This speaks volumes. My wife used to subscribe to one of those chick magazines like Good Housekeeping or Lady's home Journal. Every month there was this column called "can this marriage be saved?", involving a union where one or both partners was an F-up. Usually the answer was "no". This partnership falls under that category as well.

in this "marriage" it is maturi who needs to move out of the house, dye his hair, buy the sports car and drive off into the sunset. i feel much better having the kids at home with a stable and positive brewster on a regular basis. if the kids want to they can visit aloof maturi at his fort myers condo every other month and he will take them to the early-bird special at the local crab shack with the rest of the gray-hairs.

now only if bruininks would help move that process along...........and then join maturi down in florida himself.

For a marriage to work, both have to like each other. Brew and Maturi don't have to like each other, they just have to work together. People can work well together, even if they're not friends.

True. I work very effectively with some people I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. But for a working relationship to work both parties have to at least respect each other. It also helps if they trust each other. Judging by the recent comments from both parties I'd say we've got an "oh fer two" situation there. And going back to my marriage analogy, neither is getting any.

+1

The banter on this board is a real joke. How many of the high profile coaches in the SEC are not at odds with their AD? The coach and AD do not have to agree on everything, they just have to be able to work together.

Brewster is working at making Minnesota a big time program. The rah, rah gun-ho approach is what is needed in college football and is what you see in most major programs. Brewster is very similar to his mentor Mack Brown.

The problem we have is that this is a professional sports town and none of the reporters (or fans) want to be seen as homers so they go out of their way to attack the program. Spend some time listening to the sports programs in other "college towns" and see how much support they get. Just tonight on my drive home I picked up a station from Nebraska and they were going over the top national football recruits. When is that last time the so-called sports station in this town, KFAN every did anything like that? They would much rather talk about snuggies or the snow-nami. When you drive through Chicago they have a couple stations talking about sports with interviews and real information, even Wisconsin has an ESPN station!!! I know sports is not everything, but that is the only reason I ever have to turn on KFAN, I am not really interested in all of the 5th grade sex and farts jokes from the morning show or the poppas babble from Barreiro.

I think it's funny when my dog farts. It use to surprise him and he'd have to investigate. Now he just stops for a brief moment in acknowledgment and continues on with what ever body part he was licking.

Hopefully they get the deal done and get Brewster back to game planning for ISU.

Timely and classic!

Hmmmm. Surprising that a morning shock-jock whose career highlights usually somehow involve feces has such a lack of appreciation for one of the nation's finest research universities.

Extension

I think there has been a one year extension in place for a few weeks. I had gotten word a few weeks ago of a one year extension, but thought it was funny nothing was said. It must a timing thing. My contact has contact within the system. I guess we'll see how this plays out.

Well, all of this did fill up a couple of days which is one of the objectives of the media. It also stirred up a whole lot of action among fans which is another objective. Still don't know what the hell actually did or did not happen though it seems either Brewster or Maturi was playing some sort of a game of chicken that went public. Hopefully, now at least a few stories about football players, a victory in a bowl game, and an extension of some sort. If all that happens, I don't think think all of the recent doom and gloom speculation will come to past.

With Royce's venture evidently harmless might be a boring day on GopherHole today. Only reason to get on might be to find the "Dating Game" thread. I'm sort of anxious to see if Doogie can actually get a date with that tease, Bronko, or if Bronko continues to play hard to get.

According to Youngblood's story, Brewster 'suggested' that 'preliminary talks' had started concerning a contract extension. This could be, and probably is as simple as this:

(Brewster runs into Maturi in the halls)

Brewster: "Hey JM, it's unfortunate that all this talk about me going to Kansas started up. I'm sure we could nix that by getting my contract extended..."

Maturi: "Beat ISU and we can talk"

(Maturi walks away)

While I usually enjoy the KQRS morning show, there is absolutely no one on that show that knows anything about sports, especially Sansavere!!

As far as KFAN goes, there lack of attention or support for anything college sport related is utterly embarrassing for a so called "sports station". For the most part, their on-air personalities (I use that term loosely) are a bunch of smug pricks.
