Now for something entirely different.

Yeah, it's north of Minneapolis, hilly and cold as heck in the winter.

I was driving North out of the Twin Cities, when my Norwegian friend asked me..."Does this car go ToDaLute?" My answer...Nope, this car goes "Beep Beep".

Don't spend a lot of $$ to eat in Canal Park or at a chain. Go have the best burger and fries in the upper midwest at the Anchor in Superior, cheap prices- especially on imports and microbrews. Go on an off time and sit in the barber chairs. For local flavor, have a beer at the Pioneer downtown. Pickwick has good sandwiches. There are some cool trials and waterfalls in Chester Bowl and Lester Park, and I thought Enger Tower at night was nice.

Amazing Grace Bakery and Cafe is nice too.

edit
Scenic Cafe might be the best spot around - just a little way up the North Shore.

Might be a lil trendy but great menu, ambience, presentation and prices.

Ole and Lena had just been married at St Olaf's Church in Fillmore County and were driving to St Paul for their honeymoon when Ole put his hand on Lena's mid-thigh. "Oh, Ole," Lena responded, "you con go furder den dat!" So Ole drove to Duluth.

No disrespect meant to U - M - D but I heard Tubby refer to them as Duluth yesterday in his video statement at Williams Arena.

It reminded me of a simpler time when UMD was a part of the MIAC and was often referred to by me (and I believe others) as 'Duluth'. Eventually 'Duluth' left the MIAC so they could play other schools more their own size like 'St. Cloud' and 'Mankato'.

Old habits are hard to break. :cool02:

Of course to all of the people up there they are UMD and we are UMTC.

They like to make a point to say that their diploma's say "University of Minnesota" just like the ones from down here, with no reference to the campus.

UMD left the MIAC in 1975 to go D2. They've certainly been quite successful in athletics with last year's D2 NCAA Football Championship, a number of very good volleyball teams and of course 4 D1 championships in Women's Hockey.

YIKES!!!

Holy blast-from-the-past, Batman. The Anchor!! Visited some friends of mine at school in Duluth back in the day and the Anchor was one of the FIRST bars I ever patronized after turning 21, my first taste of Beck's, a big ol' bottle called a Beck's Bomber if I remember. Beck's has been one of my favorites to this day.

Ahhh, the good ol' days....

akgopher is correct - can't top the Anchor!
good call!
