UST (1-1) falls 6 spots to #143 after an 83-76 win over Army in the Lee & Penny Anderson Arena opener. As expected, the atmosphere was electric with announced attendance of 5,325, not to mention a halftime appearance by the legendary Red Panda. With a Saint John's (NY) home loss to Alabama yesterday, the Tommies now own the nation's longest home-court winning streak at 19.

Despite shooting just 5 for 25 (20%) from the 3-point line, the Tommies held a double-digit lead most of the way but couldn't put away a game West Point squad. The Toms put four players in double figures: sophomore guard Nolan Minessale (20 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists); redshirt freshman Nick Janowski (15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists); redshirt junior Carter Bjerke (12 points, 4 boards); and sophomore Isaiah Johnson-Arigu (11 points, 3 boards). Senior forward Jorn Everson and sophomore forward Jacen Holloway paced five Cadets in double figures with 16 points apiece.

SATURDAY EYE-OPENERS
Alabama 103, Saint John's 96: Under head coach Nate Oats Alabama once again is playing one of the nation's most hellacious non-conference schedules. The Tide passed their first significant test with flying colors by ending the Johnnies' previously nation-best 20 game home winning streak.

George Washington 99, USF 95: The Revolutionaries win an important early season test pitting two expected NCAA Tournament at-large hopefuls. Tre Dinkins (4-of-7 from 3) scored 22 points off the bench to pace GW.

Michigan State 69, Arkansas 66: Tom Izzo's Spartans have four significant tests on their non-conference slate, and they aced the first one behind a double-double from freshman Cam Ward (18 points, 10 rebounds) and 15 points, 7 boards, and 3 assists from junior sky-walker Coen Carr.

DEEP THOUGHTS, BY BUZZ STUDLEY
The Red Panda always delivers the goods! She came through with a flawless performance at The Penny last night and left to a well-deserved standing ovation, especially from a loud and appreciative packed student section.

St. Thomas fans need to bring energy like the Red Panda helped create last night to every home game, not just the trendy ones.
