be etched in "bold" in Tubby's final epitaph. I remember Jim Dutcher saying this about Jimmy Williams. " He is not only a top shelf recruiter, but he is one of the best post position coaches in college basketball who knows the game on both ends of the floor" IMO, if Williams had been hired we wouldn't be talking about the demise of Tubby Smith. I've met Jimmy several times and he is a class act. Tubby
knew that yet Maturi put the screws to the hire.

Things may have been somewhat different, but a longtime coach with this much success should have no problem finding a right hand man and other qualified assistants. If I'm following your line of thinking we should have hired Jimmy Williams instead of Tubby Smith.

Jimmy Williams would not have brought Maverik,Ingram, and Oto in if he was recruiting.

Exactly

It would have been great to have Williams. However - that's just an excuse. If anything that should have given us an initial clue that Tubby is a poor communicator. Nobody knew exactly what Tubby was doing- not Williams nor Maturi.
Regardless, you can win without Jimmy Williams.

Coaching for 44 years...two years as a head coach of the Ashland University JV team from
69-70....an interim head coach for half a season 15 years later....lifetime of jumping to one assistant job to the next - Gophers, Memphis Tulsa, San Diego State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Louisiana Lafayette, Timberwolves, Golden State (scout).

Yes, the missing piece.

Williams or no, if you judge a team by its performance, we must be lacking in the position coaching of our post players. I've heard that observation numerous times from fans that I know and some that I don't know that just bring it up out of the blue. The way that Colton Iverson has developed at Colorado St. is a case in point, especially when he himself says he left because he wasn't developing as a player. If Norwood keeps Tubby but gives him an ultimatum about improving his staff, it's an obvious easy functional hole to fill.

From a contractual standpoint, how much control does the AD have over the make-up of the coaches staff?

I can't say I know, but Teague could sure put the shoulder to Tubby.

Again, so much selective reading on this site. Where did I say the Gophers couldn't win without Jimmy Williams? I SAID! I don't think we would be talking about the demise of Coach Smith if Williams had been hired. Also, I will certainly take the opinion of Coach Jim Dutcher over some dip-
sh-t MMQ ( Williams coaching itinerary ) who probably hasn't play beyond church basketball.
If you want f--king facts I will provide you a list of recruits Williams brought to Minnesota.
Williams also as interim coach upset Iowa with the famous " Iron Five" Here's a thought boys,
actually think out the post before some half assed response.

And four days later lost the next game by 36 points followed by seven more losses and a pink slip.

And Tubby's been a head coach without Jimmy Williams that's beaten No. 9 Louisville, No. 10 Butler, No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 11 Michigan State, No. 6 Purdue, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 8 Purdue

Did you see who Williams had on the Iron Five team? Your post makes absolutely no sense.
