Norwood might be little fuzzy on his math

There are three kinds of people... Those that are good at math and those that are not.

LOL....Thanks for making me laugh. Between the 800k complaints and the Mathieu vs Freeman argument on the hoops board, there is a lot of negativity on here for some reason

Reusse states that his series of tweets was “sent along to try to bring more detail on the claim by Norwood Teague, the Gophers athletic director, that the $800,000 buyout of a North Carolina has been offset by scheduling a home-and-home with Texas Christian.” One problem with that, the Star Tribune doesn’t quote Teague (or anyone from the U) saying that this makes up for the $800,000 paid to get out of the UNC series. Teague says it’s a good deal financially and that TCU is a good opponent. I’d guess almost everyone agrees with those two statements. He doesn’t claim that they have now recouped everything lost in the buyout as Reusse says he did. Was there a quote from Teague that went further? If so, how did that not make into Reusse’s blog or the print article?

Here is my question. Let's say we do play SDSU. We pay them $400k to come play here and charge $40 per regular ticket. Now TCU comes in to take that spot and plays here for free, which essentially puts $400k in our pocket. On top of that, the TCU game will more than likely be $60 a ticket because it is a BCS school, and not FCS. WIth 40,000 non-student tickets, that brings in an additional $800,000. This doesn't even take into account the $500k TCU is paying us to play there. How is this NOT a much better financial deal than UNC? Am I missing something? Is my math completely off?

Not negative enough for some folks.
If we actually benefit from dropping the UNC series finacially, they will have nothing to complain about.
Heck even if it's a financial wash we drop a FCS opponent, which nobody east of the dakota wasteland will care about, plus we get another rebuilding year type schedule in 2013, AND a premier BCS opponent for fans to look forward to.
BUT BUT BUT
$800,000
UNFORGIVABLE
pfft.

Yep, if there's anybody who can speak to just "letting things go" or a fair and reasonable approach it would be you or me Ole!

Ole, wwe want to recruit TEXAS, not NC

Why do people keep saying this? In 2 full and 1 abbreviated Kill recruiting classes, we've signed Marcus Jones, Jamel Harbison, and had Drew Davis on lockdown until just before NSD. According to Rivals, we offered 12 NC players for the 2012 class, 8 NC players for the 2013 class, and already 3 NC players for the 2014 class. All of this for a state that isn't exactly overabundant with Division I football players. To say that we don't want to recruit NC is simply not accurate.

Reusse said in his article:

"According to Norwood, this also was going to more than wipe out the $800,000 the Gophers had paid to get out of a home-and-home series with North Carolina. That series had been scheduled to start this fall in Chapel Hill."

So did Norwood say or even insinuate that?

He did say in a television inerview that we were lucky to schedule TCU and the NC

contract situation with North Carolina was almost a wash with the contract with TCU of them paying us 500,000 to go to TCU first, they return a game without payment in 2015 and instead of us paying the buyout with SDSU Jackabbits
of 400,000 that TCU will pay that money to South Dakota State. He said this "in the end this is almos a wash".
He didn't say we make money but he said we do almost recoup everything in this new deal. That and we benefit as fans of not playing an FCS opponent and will have a game at home that will have much more appeal for ticket sales and recruiting.

Well, it seems then that everyone Teague said is true but Reusse may have a point about a lost home game.

Personally, I was never worked about the UNC cancellation in the first place but to each his own.
