per ESPN:

The Chicago Cubs will hold a news conference on Tuesday to announce a partnership with Northwestern University, which will play a variety of sports at Wrigley Field, including football, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.

The source said Northwestern's soccer and women's softball teams also will play at Wrigley. The partnership will begin immediately with the hope a football game can be played at Wrigley in 2014.

Big Ten Football at Wrigley Field

Lost in the recruiting shuffle, was the news yesterday that Wrigley Field's renovation was going to involve making it "football friendly" again, meaning they can now play a football game there without the embarrassment of using only half the field. Northwestern then announced an exclusive five-year deal with the Cubs that the Wildcats will host a Big Ten football game there once a year from 2014-2018 (5 total games = 1 in each of those 5 yrs). The games likely have to be in November to leave room for the possibility of postseason baseball in October (I know its the Cubs). So, the matchups will be at the mercy of the Big Ten schedule and of course being agreed to by the opposition.

So, with that as a backdrop, count me IN as a guy who would love to see the Gophers play a game at Wrigley Field. I'm guessing not all Gopher fans feel that way, but I will do whatever it takes to get to Wrigleyville should we get on the 'Cats schedule in November for a game at Wrigley.

Details of the NW-Cubs agreement are here.

Seen a couple of games at Northwestern. Nice place to see a game, but understand why they'd do this. Iowa, WI, MI maybe even ILL will all be able to fill Wrigley for them. It does beg one question though, will the Wildcats ever have a Home Game where people can actually park? ;)

I have seen football played at Wrigley. The Bears played there in the 1950's and 1960's. It was home to Butkus and Sayers. The field ran from the left field wall to the first base dugouts. The Ivy was dormant and few passes were thrown taking a reciever out of the back of the endzone. The had the temporary seating running from left center to the foul line. Think the Old Met Stadium. Many baseball seats were angled to the field, and there were seats obstructed by the temorary seats. It is easy to get there on the L, and avoid parking.
