per the Northfield News:

An injury derailed former Northfield High School standout football player Alex Bisch last season for the University of Minnesota but following successful surgery Bisch will attempt to earn playing time in his final season.

Bisch, who played tight end and defensive end for the Raiders, averaged 26.8 yards per catch for his career with the Raiders, which ranks second all time. He recorded 11 sacks in his high school career as well. In his senior season Bisch served as captain, won the team’s MVP award, along with being named All-Conference, All-Metro and played in the All-Star game.

“He’s a kid that chose the bigger stage knowing that he might not be a big fish,” Northfield High School head football coach Bubba Sullivan said.

Bisch is one of the few remaining players who previous Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster recruited. When Bisch arrived on campus he did not receive a scholarship. Bisch worked his way to scholarship status in 2013.

“A lot of it came from a desire to get better,” Bisch said of his motivation. “I was way too small to contribute. When I came here I was 197 pounds. I did what the coaches told me. Once I started contributing on the field I was blessed enough for Coach Kill to offer to help.”
