Cornell had lost four games in a row coming into tonight and the two power conference teams they had played(Seton Hall, Syracuse) smoked them. This team will be lucky to finish 6th in the B10. OSU, MSU, Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin and even Northwestern are better teams. Man was I dooped by that Puerto-Rico run.

I would say we are a very good team if we could shoot free throws and defend the three better. That being said, I think we are just a good team who played great in Puerto Rico. I still think we will finish higher than 6th in the Big 10 because I think we will put it together by the start of conference play.

Let's not completely write the team off after a couple poor games.

That's a bit reactionary. I think this Gopher team just has a problem playing down to the level of their opponents, which is fixable IMO.

I have seen Northwestern - they are good. Gophers must play better. Big transition, losing Al and integrating Joseph back in. Need to make FTs.

They lost their point guard and one of their senior leaders. Yes they need to defend the 3 better and work on free throws but they are a good team. We are 7-1 after 8 games. That's better than I think most people thought our record would be.

Chill and enjoy the ride.

Go cheer the Vikings then. I'm gonna stick with the Gophers. We'll be ready come Big Ten season, and the future looks very bright with AH and JC coming in, still love watching every game.

Stay positive! If we don't have our sixth man we don't stand a chance...

Go Gophers!

The FT's are a problem, but a fixable one. But Nolen or not, you need prozac Gopherwierdo! And maybe show your face here sometime when it's actually going well.

How do the last two games show in any way how the Gophers play with Nolen on the court?

Cornell had been having an unusually bad scoring season so far. They were 1 from 13 from the arc against Syracuse in the first half. One of our leading scorers Chris Wroblewski, was 0 from 6 from the arc against Syracuse, and our two regular marksmen were 0 for 8 against Seton Hall. We had been desperately waiting for our guys to start shooting well from 3 again and they picked your game to do it. It might not be as much Minnesota's fault as u think; Cuse and Hall would have been totally different games if Cornell had shot like they did today.

Nolan is at least a 12 point difference for us - defense and offensive drives to the bucket..

You mean the same Syracuse team that barely beat NC State blew Cornell out? So, what? Basketball isn't a sport where head to head match ups against other teams tell you what's going to happen the next game. Don't you think that losing four in a row might've had something to do with Cornell's effort? I do. Also, it's a different game when a number is placed in front of your school's name. The team is still learning how to be the hunted, and make no mistake when you play teams you probably should beat by ten, it's easy to fall into a funk. Free throws and three point defense need to be cleaned up, no doubt. But it's far from time to panic.

The Gophers are a good basketball team right now. Come march, they may be a Great basketball team. It all depends on injuries, how the Frosh mature, and we need to start doing the little things (Like fighting screens, not losing your man on D, and finishing at the basket) to put teams away.

2 fixable issues...FT shooting and rebounding. Listen, if they are dropping threes from 3 feet beyond the NBA arc, hats off too em. If thats the shot they want to settle for, let em have it. I thought we closed out better on the perimeter than past games, but of course, that can improve too. Rebounding...ESPECIALLY when Trevor isn't on the floor is atrocious. Iverson and Sampson apparently forgot how to box out...how many times did a smaller Cornell player slide in and grab a board? Lots...I noticed that the whole game. The FT shooting definitely is fixable. Had we made another 25% of the FT missed we would have all felt better about this win.

They'll be ok. Playing half this short season with one PG and the other half with another is not the consistency your looking for. Nolen and Joseph are not even close to being the same type of player.

Instead Of Sending Xmas Card To Al Nolen

Gopher fans might want to send him Get Well Soon card.

The next 4 games may be winnable without him but many B10 games will not.

FT shooting is fixable? Last year as a team they shot 70% from the line. THAT was unexceptable. Last night - 60%... and only 62% for the season. Going the wrong way folks...

Are you implying you can't fix FT shooting? Of course it's fixable. Tubby should have them in the barn today working exclusively on it.

They need to be a better than 'average' FT shooting team. Is it possible to fix it? Sure anything is possible, but over the last couple of years, the stats don't show it. It's especially tough to shoot below average on your home floor.

I don't want to be the spelling police...but mixing up accept/except is already bad enough...seriously how does this look right to anyone?

What about Christmas presents? Is Santa Claus going to take care of that?

I would never say "Nolen or not, this is an average team" because Nolen makes all the difference. If you watched the Gophs last year and still don't realize that the team suffers right after he's taken off, your analytical skills are off. It takes time for the team to adjust to playing without him, and even then they might not be as good as they were with him. He's probably the most important player on the Gophers' team - gotta have him healthy & playing well in order for this team to reach its potential.

Whoops .. brain lock, must not ever happen to you, you're lucky.

Don't forget that it's mainly our bigs who get to the ft line (especially with Nolen out). Most big men aren't good ft shooters.

I think it's too early for you guys to freak out about FT shooting. You have most of the same key guys taking free throws this year you'll be fine. Mbakwe at 59% is the one exception. If he can get to about 65% you ought to be happy, 70% estatic

Agree. You normally don't see teams dropping threes from that far out and usually when they do the majority don't go in. They happended to go in for Cornell. Some of the shots looked more like a desparation or circus shot to me. Without those it would have looked like an entirely different game. Nothing we can do about playing against 2 hot teams back to back.

That was my point exactly. Gophers need a healthy Nolen to do well in B10.

Yeah, I wasn't arguing with you. I only quoted you for the "Get well card" part. The rest was more or less directed at the OP.

One of the most sad and blatant troll posts ever.
