It is my biggest problem with the B1G's reversal with jumping this late into a compacted 2020 season... Notre Dame and Wake Forest were scheduled to play this Saturday, have been on each other's schedules for a long time, have been practicing and preparing for a long time, and have already played games. Yet, there they are with their game for this Saturday being postponed due to Covid popping up on the ND roster.

The new B1G season has zero wiggle room and unlike Notre Dame and Wake Forest, rescheduling games will not be an option. It all really makes me wish they had stayed with their second schedule and started earlier. I'm just going to hold my breath and hope not only the Gophers stay covid-free, but their opponents as well.

How much more wiggle room does anyone else have?

There's no reason to think ND and Wake Forest even get that game in ever.

I think North Carolina couldn't even find someone to play this upcoming weekend...

I feel like in a game of roll the dice there's not a lot more or less wiggle room.

ND and Wake are both open Oct 3. But it's unclear if ND will be able to resume football activities in time for that.

Humm, yeah that's kinda what I was thinking.

I'm not really sure that slightly more wiggle room, is really improved wiggle room the way this all plays out.

Like car is crashing and one guy has one seat belt, and another has two seat belts on ... not sure other guy is actually better off.

I'd say the reality is that all the P5 conferences are going to have some teams who don't get to play their complete schedule.

With ACC and SEC (at least) only testing 3 times a week, it seems unlikely that so many teams will go without an outbreak

The Big Ten will miss some games. Plan on it, don’t let it ruin your day/week. Nature of the beast.

MLB missed some, but didn’t cancel and here they are.

College football will similarly stumble but make it to the finish line.

Or not ...

Gonna be crazy if the Big Ten division winners come down to unequal number of games played and winning percentage as opposed to head-to-head play and a schedule that has everyone in division playing each other.

It won't be any crazier than the events that have already lead to where things are.

Full Schedule >>> Non Conf Games, 10 game Big 10 Schedule >>> No games at all or at least until 2021 >>> 8 game schedule & 1 "Champions Week" crossover

If the Conference was interested in complete equity (in the most recent latest and greatest schedule attempt) it would have gone with a 6 game Division schedule only, which would have allowed for byes/makeup dates. That would have meant less TV bucks and most likely would have precluded eligibility for the BCS playoffs as they would have been presumably 2-3 games fewer than their Big 12/ACC/SEC counterparts.

Things change.

True, good point. I'm just saying it's going to be highly controversial amongst the schools

Understood, but unfortunately I just put it in the "what are you going to do about it?" category.

Hopefully the daily testing will help catch any cases before they spread enough to postpone a game.
Yeah, I think that and the extra prep time until the first games puts the conference in a much better position to play all games than the three that have already started.

it will be a good test to see how disciplined teams are and staying away from social groups, practicing social distancing, wearing masks, following contact tracing protocols, etc.

That’s all fine and admirable but the delivery guy just walked in and sneezed.
Said he was sorry he forgot his mask in the truck. Discipline will help but guarantees nuthin’ with covid19.

Or maybe the B1G doesn’t think they need any wiggle room?

The info they have gathered over the last several weeks from their medical professionals & daily testing the B1G believes they can’t pull this off without any teams missing games.

It does make you wonder though why all divisional games weren't scheduled first, in case of cancellations.

There will be cancellations, the Presidents designed the season to fail.
