Unless I missed it, the Star Tribune didn't have a single mention of Joe Coleman's news in the hard copy of the paper today and I have no idea why. We know Myron knew about this since he first tweeted it and later blogged about it, but I guess the paper didn't feel this was big enough news to make the print edition?

I'm glad to see the Pioneer Press understood the significance of the first recruit of 2011 and the top player in the state staying home to play.

Go Gophers!!

Are we really surprised by this?

Hoopmasters (Clipped)

... Tubby Smith and his Minnesota staff have received a commitment from combo Joe Coleman.

According to a source close to the program and confirmed by the Star Tribune the Minnesota Gophers have received a commitment from 6-3 in-state combo Joe Coleman from Minnetonka, MN Hopkins High.

Coleman can flat out score off the dribble or hit jumper from beyond the arc with some regularity. He reportedly averaged 25 points an outing as a junior, but we expect him to improve on those numbers this winter. He has length and quickness to be a stopper on the defensive end. He should make an impact as a freshman for the Gophers.

He chose Minnesota over Colorado State, Creighton, Santa Clara, Iowa State, and Seton Hall ...

FOT misses the point of local coverage, which is the point of this thread. This has nothing to do with the greater significance of the commit.
When it comes to U of M BB, the PPress is pressing the cutting edge.

Strange if true. Myron's blog on it was featured prominently on the front page of Startribune.com. Perhaps he never wrote the formal 'article' for the print addition or perhaps there was a disconnect somewhere else. Honestly, the print readership is dwindling so fast I don't see how it's that big of a deal.

Hey, Myron has little kids (and babies) at home, how could he possibly find enough time to write a story on Coleman. Lets cut him some slack.

Okay, in case you didn't get it... tongue planted firmly in my cheek.

There is a small write up in Sunday's print edition, which shows that the STrib does value a top 75 kid in state going to the U, but must have forgotten to include it yesterday when it was actually timely news.

Go Gophers!!

Nope

Rather than start whole new threads, I just posted related clips in this one.
