Current head coach Dave Doeren taking the NC STate job. And before their bowl game.

He did a great job with coach Kill's recruits, parlaying it into a BCS position.

Doeren will move up to a BCS job, but not the NC State job, all reports have Sonny Dykes as the leading candidate at NCST.

That is a tough break for NIU, but not really unexpected. Coaches in the MAC that have enjoyed immediate success tend to have short stays at their schools. Miami of Ohio has been called the cradle of coaches, but the same could be said for the MAC as a whole. More than a few coaches that have enjoyed successful runs at major conferences got their start in the MAC.

I wonder if Kent State's coach will be leaving for a BCS school in the next few weeks as well.

Go Gophers!!

Weird. Not sure why he'd take that job. Didn't MNboiler say that he had already talked with Purdue? Anyway, he did a heck of a job. They had Iowa beat in the first game of the season, they could have easily gone undefeated this year.

1.8 million reasons he took the NCST job.

I'm sure the HC at Kent State is going to be on a lot of short lists if he chooses to leave.

It has to be expected for good lower level FBS programs. They'll probably not keep coaches more than three or four years if they have success.

NIU should grab Danny Hope.

I don't care what NIU does as long as they don't come after Tracy Claeys.

Thought I saw where Doreen was only making something just over $400K (I know only right). Claeys would be nuts to take that job offer considering he has great job security with Kill doesn't make that much less here and if things go well he can hold out for a more attractive opening at a bigger school down the line. That being said if he does have head coaching aspirations it wouldn't be a terrible call for NIU to make given his background there, they did pass on him once already though so seems unlikely.

Doeren took himself out consideration for the Purdue job early this week when more notable programs (i.e. N.C. State) came sniffing around. Purdue has gone all in on Butch Jones from Cincinnati and from what I'Ve been told a decision is forth comig as eary as tomorrow. Jones wants out of Cincy but like Doeren, he might be looking for bigger and better things (i.e. Tennessee or Colorado).

I don't think Colorado is any bigger/better than Purdue

Hard to be mad about this if you're an NIU fan, coaches leaving is part of the deal at a MAC school.

If NIU sneaks into the Orange Bowl, I think they'll get over losing their coach.

Brian Kelly left Cincinnatti before their undefeated BCS game.

I think it would be great to see Coach Kill's players in the national spotlight.

Congrats to Kill and staff for laying the ground work and to Doeren and staff for this accomplishment. Maybe Kill can get some publicity for helping. It can't hurt.
