nice!!!

I just browsed through the Gopher roster and looked at a couple other bios. I was surprised to see that Martin Zeno (former TTU standout) is Armelin's cousin - that's another "green flag" for Armelin. Zeno was also a relatively unheralded prospect from Sulphur, LA, who "only" went on to average 14.7 points a game for his career in the Big 12 (he scored over 1900 points in college). The Gophers could be on to something with this kid.

Zeno and Armelin played at the same high school, albeit several years apart. Here is a brief comparison of their respective senior seasons:

Zeno - averaged 27 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game; team went 38-4
Armelin - averaged 23.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg; team went 30-6

Sorry for getting off topic a bit here.

Also note that Armelin turns 20 in December. Oto is already 20. Both old for freshmen.

Both Zeno and Armelin had similar "heartbreak" endings to their seasons. Playing in the highest classification in the state, each lost a last tough game in the playoffs. Zeno's team (ranked # 1 )lost 58-57 in the states' semi-finals to D J Augustin's team. Zeno had 34 while holding Augustin to 12 points. D J also fouled out trying to guard Zeno. Augustin's team made two free throws with 0:00 on the clock for the one point win.

Armelin's team ( ranked #4) lost in the Quarter-finals 59-58 when the other team made two free throws with 6 seconds on the clock. Chip had 21 and his final shot was just short at the buzzer.

Zeno started his third game as a freshman (for a pretty demanding coach) and stayed in the starting line up for 4 years, finishing at #7 on the all time scoring list at Texas Tech.

Chip's future at Minnesota is in his hands. How will it play out?

To the latter ? I think he may become for Gophers what Gerald Fitch was at Kentucky for Tubby. He (Fitch) was lightly recruited until he got a qualifying test score in spring of 2000. UK missed a number of higher rated players but landed Fitch in the springtime. He wound up starring for UK in 2003 and 04.
