Wow, that is a massive block "M" - I think I like it!

Dear Cub Foods, I have come to grips that your ads will probably still be in the corners. But PLEASE do your ads in maroon and gold! The big red CUB looks awful. If you do this, I will shop at Cub instead of my Super Target.

was the floor lowered a little bit? It doesn't look as high. Was this in the plan to do this? Or am I off my rocker?
 

I agree with Bleed, I think the block "M" looks pretty cool. Also, it looks like the wood is a little lighter than the previous version.

To answer Ilovethebarn's question, I thought I had read that the court will be lowered a little bit this year, which is interesting.
 

Wood is much lighter than in the past. Should help make the place look brighter on television.

I like the big M if for no other reason than branding. I think the U does a horrible job with brand management in athletics. I think all uniforms in all sports should have a similar feel and that isn't the case now. You need people who see highlights of anything Gophers to immediately say "that's the U of M." The school hasn't had that in ages.

With the big M and a similar big M at midfield of TCF Bank and Mariucci, this is a step in the right direction.
 

The floor appears lighter right now but it looked to me like they may still have to apply the seal that goes over the top. I could be wrong but it doesn't look completely finished to me.
 



Spoke to someone last week who definitely knows. He said the floor will be much lighter in color.

That was one of the goals of the project and decisions were made to accomplish that.

Per Charley Walters earlier this month, he mentioned that they lowered the floor a few inches. Only the shadow knows right now how much "a few" is...

Has to be elevators to comply with ADA standards. Another unique feature of The Barn this year is that your seat will easily be able to accommodate the giant stick you have up your a**. :p

New floor looks great. I like the huge "M" in the middle and I also really like the "Williams Arena" placed on the floor.

This new picture makes me excited for the season to start and so glad I got the Big Ten Network out in Massachusetts. Go Gophers!!!!!!!!!!!
 

Gotta say, having now seen the entire new floor in its proper setting, it looks great!!!:clap:

Definitely looking forward to the basketball season. It's also nice to hear that the basketball guys were out supporting the volleyball team last night.:D
 

It looks great in the gym! It almost makes The Barn look new...like a new gym or something. The floor looks very professional, almost like a pro arena. I really like it!

Maple (I assume it's maple) darkens up after it's laid and sealed. But still, this looks like it will be considerably lighter than its predecessor even after it sets. I wonder if they have to change the lighting for the new floor.

In any event, it works for me. I especially like the way lighter floors look on HDTV. For instance, Wake Forrest has an awesome looking floor on TV

The Block M

looks much more old school and classic. It gives the whole place a classy feel. I like goldy but when he is dribbling the basketball and holding a hockey stick he looks kind of cheesy. Like someone said in a previous post it ties the sporting venues together the the block M's at TCF Bank Stadium and Mariucci Arena.

I'm gonna miss the huge "MINNESOTA" and "GOLDEN GOPHERS" along the sidelines. They look too small now. Other than that the court looks great.

Not only do I miss the big MINNESOTA and GOLDEN GOPHERS on the sidelines, I actually liked the old honey colored floor. Obviously, I'm in the minority on this viewpoint.

I also really liked the darker colored floor. I wish they would have kept it the same color. Somehow it fit well inside a really old "Barn". :) Oh well.

The new floor will look sharper, though, especially on TV.
