I just received a text from Florida LB Rayfield Dixon say he has committed to #Minnesota this morning over West Virginia.

@jeffgreer: Seminole Ridge LB Rayfield Dixon has verbally committed to Minnesota. Chose the #gophers over #WVU and #BGSU.”

Go Gophers!!

Palm Beach Post: Seminole Ridge LB Rayfield Dixon commits to Minnesota

The first-team All-Area selection made 89 tackles, including 16 for loss, and six sacks this past season, helping Seminole Ridge reach the regional finals for the second time in three seasons.

“The relationship was big,” interim Seminole Ridge coach Justin Hilliker said of Dixon’s choice. “He really looked at every aspect of the decision and was very thorough.”

Dixon took all five of his NCAA-allowed official visits, beginning in late September with a trip to Purdue. He traveled to West Virginia in October and Minnesota and Louisville in December. In January, he visited Bowling Green.

Go Gophers!!

I was just going to post this article. I should have known you were going to beat me to it!

Nice to see that he visited other schools and choose MN. Offers include West Virginia, Mississippi St, Purdue, Wake Forest, and Temple. Good to beat out teams from BCS conferences.

I like him, but really hope we don't have to play him right away. Definitely needs to red-shirt.

Hope we can get either Spearman or Riley now too. I can't imagine we'd have room for both at this point, but maybe they're both good enough for us to find a way (grey shirt Wipson?).

Let's hope we have to deal with that "problem"!

Rayfield, welcome to Gold Country!

This is a great get for us!

Ski-U-Mah and Go Gophers!

Projecting him at LB, or RS, bulk up and work as a DE? Seems like the type of kid the staff likes to move to DE.

He'll be an OLB. He's a S/OLB 'tweener already - no way he'll get big enough to play DE.

If he's OLB material (most likely), we have like 6 (9 LBs total) guys ahead of him already on the team. Unless he shines awesomely in spring ball/summer workouts, he'll redshirt.. Or at least not play that position. If he doesn't RS, he'll probably be a good special teams kid.

Yeah, but we have guys coming back for a unit that was, in my opinion, the worst aspect of our defense, and other than Hill, they still didn't start. Yes, we have guys coming back, but are they any good? That's my concern for all of our freshmen - we get stuck playing guys who are more talented than the returners, but aren't physically ready, something we had to do a ton of two years ago, and still some this past year. I think I'm okay with what we have coming back at the other position groups - LB is the exception, for me.

Rayfield, welcome! Now go get bigger, stronger, and faster!

Valid concern. Honestly, LB and HB/RB are the two positions I'll be watching a lot of this coming spring/fall.

Welcome aboard! He has impressive tape and he's at a position of need. What's not to like?

I keep hearing people talk about RB and I just don't see it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we are dynamic at RB or anything, but I'd be pretty shocked if 75%-85% of the carries didn't go to Williams/Kirkland (barring injury). There might be some time for a guy like Edwards to get some reps at HB, but he'll be fighting with Cobb and Maye.

I agree with this take.

I think it's a completely valid concern but the scariest thing is that our biggest question mark is in the middle. On the outside, Manuel and Edwards took a lot of snaps last year and Manuel flashed at times. Hill was decent, but then like you've said, we'll have to count on one of the newer guys. It'll be interesting to see what we get from Lynn (coaches have been talking him up) on the outside.

In the middle...
Matilus keeps winning awards as being a scout team player (back to back defensive scout team player of the year).
The JuCo guy, I can't remember his name right now, but we must assume we can get something out of him.
Westerhaus?

Aaron Hill was named a captain for 2013 and played a lot last year. Manuel also played quite a bit. Damien Wilson was the national JUCO defensive player of the year, so unless he bombs out, he'll be stating in the middle. Edwards got very few reps last season, and some of the younger guys didn't see any action, other than maybe the 2nd half of the UNH game. Given that Kill has shown no issues with playing young guys that he thinks will eventually contribute, and the fact that it appears we are going to add 5-6 LB's to a small recruitng class, I'll go out on a limb and say there might be some concern with the back-ups. I'll be surprised if our opening day LB unit isn't Damien Wilson in the middle, Hill at SS, and Manuel at WLB. It's probably also safe to assume that 1-2 of the high school recruits will be playing limited minutes and on special teams this year.

Let's turn this away from a position breakdown and get back to welcoming Rayfield Dixon to the Maroon and Gold.

Ski-U-Mah Rayfield.

Welcome Rayfield! Nice to see us getting some good verbals at a position of need.

I wonder if they are done at LB now. I'm assuming they would welcome another juco like De'Vondre Campbell.

Get the best football players you can get, find out where the fit, and coach. He certainly fits the former.

I think the key to your statement is 'like' De'Vondre. Anyone out there that is still available with a similar skill set to his?

Yea, De'Vondre. Well maybe? Conflicting reports.

I just received a text from Hutch CC LB De'Vondre Campbell that he's NOT commited to #K-State & is still considering Minnesota @GoPowercat

Despite reports, @BrianCGates is hearing from his sources that De'Vondre Campbell remains committed to K-State.

But the main question is--Does Bayfield like Rayfield?
