per GopherSports:
The Minnesota athletic department has given the indoor practice facility at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex a facelift during the short break between spring football and fall camp.
The surface of the indoor field was removed last month and was recently replaced with the same FieldTurf found at TCF Bank Stadium, right down to the logos at midfield and in the end zones.
This renovation will allow the Gophers to practice on a playing surface which is identical to the field used on game days. The Gophers broke in the new playing surface during brief voluntary workouts this week. Meanwhile, the Tim Brewster Minnesota Football Camps are currently taking advantage of the new surface this week.
"The replacement of the turf in the indoor facility was a must for our football team," Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster said. "It was worn and the new surface is exactly like what's in TCF Bank Stadium. It's a first-class upgrade for our football program. It will certainly help our players and coaches as far as our preparations are concerned."
The Gophers will use that new turf with even more regularity when they begin fall camp on August 6 and open the 2010 season on the road at Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2.
