The Minnesota athletic department has given the indoor practice facility at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex a facelift during the short break between spring football and fall camp.

The surface of the indoor field was removed last month and was recently replaced with the same FieldTurf found at TCF Bank Stadium, right down to the logos at midfield and in the end zones.

This renovation will allow the Gophers to practice on a playing surface which is identical to the field used on game days. The Gophers broke in the new playing surface during brief voluntary workouts this week. Meanwhile, the Tim Brewster Minnesota Football Camps are currently taking advantage of the new surface this week.

"The replacement of the turf in the indoor facility was a must for our football team," Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster said. "It was worn and the new surface is exactly like what's in TCF Bank Stadium. It's a first-class upgrade for our football program. It will certainly help our players and coaches as far as our preparations are concerned."

The Gophers will use that new turf with even more regularity when they begin fall camp on August 6 and open the 2010 season on the road at Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2.

Go Gophers!!

Yeah, I noticed that. Probably is right to get that done, the other stuff was getting kinda old.

I was hoping for a monster truck rally in there when i saw all the machines pushing dirt around in there...boring

I was hoping for a track for Goldy's faux-Segway. This is an outrage! The athletic department is wasting money on relatively important things!

Speaking of that segway thing....

Goldy needs to get something more bad-ass to ride onto the field on. Like a beastly ATV, or chopper, or snowmobile or something.

Or maybe he can learn to jump out of a plane and parachute onto the field. Or rise up from a trapdoor in the middle of the field.

Something better than that goofy segway.....

If they don't dress Goldy up as Paul Blart for at least one game next year, someone in marketing needs to be fired.

Didn't he used to have a like a gas powered scooter thing? That went pretty fast for what it was.

What will they do with the old turf? Does some smaller school take our hand me downs? I've thought that you could take some old artificial turf and place it in the habitats of the apes at Como Zoo. It might look a little garish, but bare concrete isn't exactly natural for a gorilla or an orangutang, no matter how you sculpt it.

The new practice turf should allow them to perfect the bounce pass. Brewster was on IL when WI used it in 82.

Are they going to put a chunk of it next to the Rose Bowl turf?

It looks to me like the inside of the fieldhouse could use a new coat of paint and som inspiring graphics. To me it looks blah and little bit color and graphics could go along way.

Youtube has the Wright to Toon bounce pass. I recalled IL. being caught more flat footed.

I don't know if Goldy is going to ride it, but Polaris signed a football sponsorship and custom painted a Gopher Victory Motorcycle.

I agree! They have a graphic of Bobby Bell up on the wall and he is one size and right next to him is another graphic of Tyrone Carter that is about half the size of Bell's. Doesn't look thought out. Do it right or don't do it at all.
