New Purdue coach making about as much as Fleck

Where did Fleck's salary or restructure rank him in the conference upon the original announcement of it? I legitimately don't know. Everyone who's signed a contract since his last one will likely have signed higher salary contracts due to time and other comparative factors. Upon Fleck signing his next contract, it will probably plop him right in line with where he's perceived to be within the conference, and it'll look fair for maybe six months until he gets pushed back towards the bottom half due to other hires/contract extentions.

Too lazy to look it up but I think it was around 13th. Salary pool for assistant coaches has always been near or at the bottom of the league which is a bigger issue

No one needs to make more money than Fleck including him but his assistants are underpaid imo.

His assistants are not underpaid. If you look at the rest of the conference all of the teams that pay more total to their assistants do so because they have many more years of experience. Our OC and DC have 3 years combined experience.

For reference. Phil Parker makes $900,000 more than our DC and has 13 years as Iowa's DC. He got a $100,000 increase from 2022 to 2023 (7.2%) and a $400,000 (26%) increase from 2023 to 2024.

Heatherman just got a $150,000 increase to $1M a 15% increase.

Yes, $1m per year seems fair for a college DC with 1 season experience. Wommack at Alabama is making $1.5m but he has a few seasons as a DC prior to joining Alabama.

Lupoi at Oregon is getting $1.7m and he was a DC for Alabama and three years NFL experience.

Tony White was getting $1.6m at Nebraska and had 5 years experience as a DC.

I think if Heatherman keeps doing what he's doing he will either get more here or someone will pay him more elsewhere. But for Right now $1m for a guy with 1 year experiences seems fair enough.

Have another really good year and he likely will need a 50% increase to keep him.

Yup, I think he probably gets another big bump if he can repeat what he did this year. He could be making $1.5-$1.7m after next season which would probably be a little above market for his experience.
