New Hire Grades

Mandel has not been the same concerning the Gophers since he preseason ranked them around 9th a few years ago. They crashed and burned big time that year. Even at the time I read it, I thought he stretched it way to far.

That said, it sounds like in regards to MN grades, he is grading Maturi's hype more then the hire itself. I do agree his grading is suspect in regards to first time HCs.

Agree with this. He did seem to include expectations in some of the grades (though not in Michigan's where he ignored the fact that the fanbase freaked out).

The "letdown" that he spoke of lasted about 36 hours. I was astonished at how quickly attitudes about the Kill hire turned around as people began to seriously look at his resume.

I don't' think anybody on the list gets even a B+. I like coach Kill a lot, buit he has a lot to prove to be an A, most of the rest have a lot more to prove than Coach Kill does. The ratings on Wilson and Shaw at this point are a joke, and I don't mean they are not really talented coaches. They are but being a head coach is not the same thing.

Edsall worse than Kill huh?

Glad to see the national media thinks that. I think Kill is a better hire.

I used to like Mandel, but he's turned into a real dick over the last couple of years or so.

And what the hell is up with this:

"You would think a school with five national titles could land a bigger name"

(in reference to Miami)

Why didn't he say "You would think a school with six national titles could land a bigger name" in reference to Minnesota?

I still like Stew and find his weekly mailbag a must read, however I did not agree with much of this article.

I did chuckle quite a bit that Edsall was below Kill. Kind of made my day, I was anti-Randy all along.

He is a proven above-average coach in the MAC, settle down.

I think the issue is comparative grading. New hires who have not proven anything yet as HC were given A's whereas Kill and a few others who have a track record were less. Something not quite right about that.

Settle Down? I am not wound up.

IMO, Kevin Wilson is a speculative hire at this point, whereas Kill has proven he can take losing programs and turn them around rather quickly. My issue was with Wilson and Shaw getting "A" grades.

I'm proud of our history and all, but our six titles 50+ years ago don't mean to much in today's world. And this is too bad ... but reality.
