Anyone else shocked that this tradition was started when Iowa fans threatened our players with violence if they felt we tackled their poor players too hard?

Sounds about right for those redneck sheep lovers.
 

According to another post here, in addition to taking out their star RB, we also told on them for paying their players and getting them kicked out of the B1G for a few months. Hatred goes wayyyy back and hate is a strong word so...

Back in the 50's my parents always went down to Iowa for the game. They reported that Iowa fans would smash the windows of cars with Minnesota plates. This game means so much. My favorite memory of this rivalry was the 1960 game when both teams were undefeated and Iowa was no. 1, the Gophs no. 2. Tom Brown pushed their center into the qb and that was the story of that game. We won and I stormed the field.

I loved this video. Very emotional. GO GOPHERS!!!!!

Sorry to bring up PA again, but today he had the wonderful Marcus Sherels on. Finally made a mention of the Gophers and Marcus made one comment and then PA said he couldn't watch the Iowa game in London and then turned the subject to BBC. Nothing about the team, the game, no mention that Mike is on the staff and what does he think. I am so mad at the way the media goes all Vikings all the time. I KNOW, this is a Viking town. BIG DEAL. They stink. We have a major college team with several national championships. They deserve better treatment.
 

Gopher Productions has been an awesome addition to the program, they have been absolutely killing it! Now if we can just make one badass team intro and stick with it year after year...

Nailed it! These have been SO GREAT! I really hope they do more than the 8 episodes they plan on doing. It would be cool for them to do it every week.

Not to rain on your hatin' parade but it is a little more serious than that. They essentially accused the Gopher players of being racist for targeting their black star, Ozzie Simmons, because he was black. I don't doubt that it happened that way. In reading a few other things, it sadly seems that it was common practice back then. Sure, the Gophers had the first black All-American QB in Sandy Stephens, but Floyd came way before that. So it wasn't just "rough-housing" tensions, but racial tensions that needed to be lightened by the bet.
