Can you feel it in the Air?

With fall camp rapidly approaching and a new era of Gopher Football about to begin, It's time to let all Gopher fans know about an exciting new fan club.

I have received the encouragement of the Goalline Club to start a fan club in the Sioux Falls, SD; SW Minnesota, NE Iowa, and sorrounding areas. If Interest is high enough and the turnout is strong there is potential for a Sioux Falls chapter of the Goalline Club and thus other perks such as viewing parties for games, cheaper drink specials, and a Charter Bus from Sioux Falls to Minneapolis during home games.

What I need is for all Gopher fans in these areas to express their interest in getting together on Saturdays. I have set up an Email, Facebook page, and obviously people can PM me here on the 'Hole. I hope to at least get around 10-20+ fans that would want to get together because I have already secured a location in Sioux Falls that will offer drink specials and a viewing area for all Gopher Football games.

I would love it if this could take off. There is alot of "U" alums and fans in this region, we just need to congregrate in one Maroon clad area. I think we could run all the iowa rabdo fans out of this area!

So please let me know if your interested in this. Also, any questions, ideas, or contact info of fans in this area that don't read Gopherhole. My contact info:

Let's make this happen, SKI-U-MAH!!

attn mods: If it's possible, could this be stickied for awhile to make sure all fans have a chance to read it and respond. Thanks.

Nice job. I'll remember to "like" it on Facebook.

More power to you.

Great idea Joe. I have some interest in participating. Curious as to what place you have secured?

There are a few places that are interested depending on turnout estimates.

The one place that has for sure offered a space is Nutty's south. If you haven't been there, they have a nice Screened in porch (heated when it's cold) connected to the main bar area by sliding doors with a huge TV. It seats roughly 50 people.

I have been to Nutty's, but it's been a long time. Would be a good spot. I will try and keep track of what happens with this.

Joe - Great idea!! I would be interested I live 20 mins from Sioux falls. Can't wait to hear more about it.

Sick of going to Bdubs and watching the Gophers on the small TVs

fan clubs

Great topic. Maybe with some GLC help we could help develop out-state hubs in such areas like Bemidji, Alexandria, Duluth, Rochester, Fort Myers, wherever -you get the point. However this is a fan club and it takes people to make it happen.

Great idea. I don't know how many ex-Gophers are still in the area, but SW Minn. produced quite a few Gophers. Ones I can remember are Larry Buehler, Mt. Lake. Dennis Hale and Rich Stolp and I think one other from Jackson, Walt and Tom Pribyl, Heron Lake, Del Jessen, Luverne. Don't know if there are more recently. Joe Salem was is SF for awhile, don't know if he still is.

You might get the janitor's closet at Nutty's while Nebraska takes up the bar and parking lot.

littlebigboy - one correction - Larry Buhler was from Windom. (He's got a statue on the square next to the county courthouse.) Other Gophers from SW MN include the Tow-Arnett brothers. I know Denny Hale and Rich Stolp -couldn't find two nicer people in the world. Rich still referees a lot of basketball games in the area, and works as a clinician and mentor to younger referees. Denny retired last year after a long run as the head FB coach in Worthington.

Just some updates about the new Sioux Falls area Gopher Fan Club. We definitely have a place and set in stone. I decided to go with Nutty's (corner of 49th and Westport). Gregg, the owner, is very excited to have us and has offered a great deal for Gopher fans. We get the 50 person patio area complete with a brand new 72" big screen as well as two additional T.V.'s. At first he will offer all Gopher fans a free Keg until gone, then additional drink specials thereafter. He is very excited to help us in anyway, but I need all of your help. IF you know any Gopher fans in this area please direct them to me. If you are in the area please make an effort to spread the word and show up. This could be a great opportunity to meet other fans in the area and make Saturdays that much more enjoyable. Refer to the links in the OP for contact info and suggestions.

If you have any contact info for these great ex-Gophers please direct that info to me. Quite a list, would love to have them involved!

No doubt we have a challenge on our hands. But, So far so good as far as a great place.....at least far better than a Janitors closet.

SWGopherNut, you are exactly the type of fan that we need. I know many fans in the Luverne area and would love it if you showed up, in fact, it's that type of effort that will get this off the ground in a big way. Please help me spread the word and offer any suggestions that might get the fans off the couch for half a Saturday!

From my conversations with the GLC they are willing to offer help if the numbers make sense. No doubt Gopher fans are out there, we just need to become pro-active.

Good luck Joe!! I kinda wish I lived down there just so I can help.

Git R Done!!!

I am in, but I would vote against Nutty's...

While I don't entirely disagree with you here's the facts. Obviously Nebraska is huge here, I talked with three other places and they where on board if I could guarantee them 40+ Gopher fans that would otherwise be filled by Husker fans. Also, Gregg the owner (of Nutty's) has been more than accomodating and willing to do whatever it takes to make us Gopher fans comfortable. It is a really good place to have secured. For now at least, With a start up club, I really don't have a whole lot of negotiating power until us Gopher fans become a bit more social. But, strength in numbers, right? I hope we can come in forces to anywhere we want down the road. That will be a decision we will decide as a group!

The question is why not now? Why not you?! The hard part is getting Gopher fans active, but there are plenty out there that I've found!
