TCU slips to #3, behind Alabama. From the SEC:

2. Alabama
6. Auburn
10. Georgia
14. LSU
16. Texas A&M
17. Ole Miss
18. Arkansas
21. Missouri
23. Tennessee
25. Mississippi State

From the B1G:

1. Ohio State
5. Michigan State

Receiving votes:

26. Wisconsin
28. Northwestern
36. Minnesota

I'm mildly surprised they didn't stick Florida in there as well. Big win over New Mexico State.

Which of those 10 teams will be this year's Texas A&M and ruin the Top 25 for the entire season?

Texas A&M will probably be this year's Texas A&M...starting 0-4 in conference isn't out of the question. Glad Mississippi State moved into the top 25, just in time to give LSU a "quality win" this week.

Northwestern defeats a ranked Stanford team and doesn't get ranked. Mississippi State struggles with Southern Miss and moves into the top 25. Interesting, but not surprising in the slightest bit.

Don't you know that means Stanford was overrated and Southern Miss is much better than everyone thought?

Doesn't help the Big Ten that they keep putting Penn St. on national television.

I must have missed it. Which of those many teams that were overranked last year and didn't do all that well last year, including a relatively poor showing in bowl games, is showing that they've so greatly improved this year to deserve these rankings...again?

Tennessee went 7-6 last season and didn't beat a single ranked team but was still ranked in the preseason top 25. The SEC as a conference is never even close to the credit they get. They always have one or two good teams per year and the rest of the conference is for some unknown reason (ESPN deal with SEC) grouped in with those teams. The conference as a whole really isn't much better than other conferences. The difference is all the SEC teams are overhyped so when their good teams have a close game with someone it's reason to say the other team is better than they thought. Whereas when Ohio State plays Minnesota and only wins by 7 they say it just shows that Ohio State is weak or not as good as they thought. The SEC doesn't play enough power 5 non-conference games to truly say they are much better. In fact they don't really play any power 5 non-con games. If they do the teams usually make sure to schedule programs that are below their level. They rely on Alabama and one other team every year to beat a respectable non-con power 5 team that they're usually favored and expected to beat in a "neutral" site game 10-20 times closer to them than their opponents, making it a much lower risk than actually traveling to play. That combined with the over-inflated preseason rankings for SEC teams courtesy of ESPN automatically leads to the assumption the whole conference is good.

And good luck getting them to play a non-con game in the midwest later in the season. Just would be nice to see those teams play at least one game in the cold.

10 ranked SEC teams is laughable. When they get their butt kicked in the bowls, I will remember this poll.

In how many of their bowl games are they the higher ranked team? I'm curious what the percentage is...and how closely do the winning %s match the rankings advantage?

It wouldn't happen, but you could have 20 top 25 teams in ten bowls and the SEC teams could lose all of them. That wouldn't mean they aren't all top 25 teams. Rankings are just the best people can do with incomplete information.

The SEC is 0-5 the last two seasons in BCS/New Year 6/CFP bowl/playoff games. So yes, it absolutely has proven its dominance the last 2 seasons. Rank 'em all. They're all great.

This poll doesn't matter. No poll after week 1 is accurate. The first poll with any meaning comes out on November 3rd. Until then ESPN can continue choking on SEC d!ck for all I care. We all know the SEC is overrated.

I think Mississippi State was right outside in the last poll, #26 maybe. They probably moved in when Stanford fell out.

Breaking down the SEC's 0-5 mark in major bowl games the last 2 years

And all from the vaunted SEC West.

2013 Season
Oklahoma 45, Alabama 31 (Sugar Bowl)
Florida State 34, Auburn 31 (National Championship Game)

2014 Season
Georgia Tech 49, Mississippi State 34 (Orange Bowl)
TCU 42, Ole Miss 3 (Peach Bowl)
Ohio State 42, Alabama 35 (Sugar Bowl)

Average margin of SEC defeat in BCS/New Year's 6/CFP bowl games = 15.6 ppg
National Championships = 0

"SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC, SEC. ..."
