Nebraska City News Press: Saturday Kill Shot?

I totally understand why the fan base is frustrated with Pelini, still it is funny when you look at the difference in expectations where 8-4 or even possibly 9-3 is viewed as a bad year. Would love to see us get to the point some day where winning that many games would be viewed as a failure.

I'm sure if we had a coach that went 9-4 every year 7 straight times, you'd have folks on this bored crying that we've plateaued and need a new coach to take it to the next level. As we saw the last time we tried that, it is a very slippery slope.

I would hope however that while such a record may be disappointing, it wouldn't elicit calls to have the HC fired. I don't want the program to take on a "win at all cost" mentality.

Pelini has won 9 or 10 games every year, and will likely do it again this year. Nebraska fans must have blocked out the Bill Callahan years from memory, which is what happened the last time they fired a coach after winning 9 or 10 games every year.

Sparlimb: "Let me guess, you aren't one swayed by fact."

Fact? We had a football coach who won 9 games or more once in 10 years, and that's a fact.

And we had a chronic whiner/troll around here that told us constantly about how everything was Callahan's fault and how as soon as Pellini came in they'd be challenging for National Championships year after year.

They must have brought Callahan back last week.

From the article: "The team [Minnesota] has improved in every year since, despite the difficulty in recruiting to a down-on-its luck school located in arguably the most frigid part of the United States, sans Alaska."

Why do other B1G writers feel they can take shots at our climate? Like Lincoln, Nebraska is materially warmer than Minneapolis??

Nebraska fans have got to be frustrated as they slowly see their dynasty fading away. Probably like Minnesota fans felt in the '50's (or '60's?) when they were hanging Murray Warmath in effigy.

Yeah, it's hard for them to accept, but that's not going to happen again unless they either start cheating significantly, or the game and rules somehow change to remove the built-in advantages that warm weather schools now enjoy.

Just more evidence that global warming only occurs in spring and summer. :p

Before and after the tOSU game we had people here bitchn about a non-sold out TCF. People complaining about fans in the concourses. Complaining about people not standing out there until the end. Many posts about how weak people were for not showing-up because 15 degrees and snowing "aren't bad conditions" that we've had worse before. Some bragging about how conditions have been much worse. Those guys gave out the impression that Saturday's condition happen every year up here.

Maybe Big Ten writers get all their weather info from Gopherhole. :drink:

With a little digging the average Nov. high in Lincoln is 50. A little warmer maybe but then your still in Lincoln NE.
