NCAA makes recruiting rules changes; will Tubby change philosophy on elite camps?

From the ESPN.com article today:

"The NCAA will now allow college basketball coaches to have recruiting conversations during summer camps and clinics on campus.

The coaches will be restricted from giving recruits campus tours or other benefits that come from official visits."

From a Marcus Fuller story last June:

"Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith doesn't believe he needs to host an elite summer camp.

Smith, who held an elite or advanced skills camp for top prospects in his first two summers in Minnesota, has decided against hosting one in favor of a more conservative approach this year."

It will be interesting to see if Tubby reinstates his Elite Camps which would allow an additional recruiting touch point that some of our competitors will have if they keep their Elite Camps.

Interesting. From reading the article, it appears this was born out of the inability to enforce the previous rules, and the fact that its a little ridiculous that the head of the program can't converse during their own camps.

Of course, if Tubby lands Joseph and Walker and adds them to the 2010-11 class, that's a pretty strong group pulled in without the Elite Camp. Seems like maybe Tubby will play it year-to-year, depending on what he thinks it will take to pull in certain kids?
