Wow, I am shocked. UT's president must be very proud of his action against this cheating bastard. Big freaking deal. He makes a few bucks less for lying to the NCAA? Didn't Sampson do the same thing and is out of coaching for the rest of his life? What kind of shows are these clawns running? Everybody, including Pearl's ex-wife, knew that he was a cheater and a very bad coach. It is just the matter of time that Calamari will be punished by UK president for perhaps a timeout or two for his cheating??? I am so thankful that we will never be worried about these things as long as Tubby is coaching for us.

If I remember right Sampson didn’t have two phones. He got caught because he made all the illegal calls from his IU phone. That’s why this is limited to a pay cut, I’ll put money down that this is just one of his extra phones. His mistake was having a contract rather than using the prepaid phones that other coaches use. On a side note Don Meyer loves Sampson; he says Sampson is a great coach that just caved under the pressure to win.
This is just one of the rules that are always being bent. I know an AAU coach for a top girl’s Midwestern team; he works for a radio station so the coaches just call him at work. They get unlimited contact to him and his players because the NCAA isn’t going to see a problem with a college calling a radio station. A lot of D-1 schools call him all day every day.
I was at a D-1 school working a camp for them and was told that a big east coach has his bonus checks sent to his wife. Then his wife buys prepaid visa cards and gives them to some of his players. They also told me that the first time USC tried to give Percy “Lil Romeo” Miller, Jr his travel per diem he asked them how they expected his team mates to feed themselves on $55 (or whatever it was) a day, and that he didn’t need it and picked up the tap for the whole team. Personal I think he was just shocked to find out they make a bill under $20.
As for “Calamari” he doesn’t buy players, he doesn’t break any more rules than most other coaches do. What he does; when most D-1 coaches treat AAU coaches like lepers he was giving them jobs on his bench. Back when he was at Memphis he had more guys in suits than players on his bench. Is that just as shady? Yes but it wasn’t against the rules when he was doing it.
Now the agents buy these players at 16 and the agents call coaches to see where they are going to get the most shots and send the kid there. Coaches like Tubby tell them no thanks, Bo Ryan honestly tells them to go f**k themselves. But places like UK, tOSU, USC, and UT see no problem with this because they again are not directly breaking the rules.
