Well i just played through the season on NCAA 14 for the first time as not the gophers since that oddly always ends in the gophers winning their 8 natty title and us having to rename the forum.

First i used an updated set of rosters and tweaked some player rankings to that the teams had some semblance of balance (ie teams are rated what they should actually be, not the sh!t ea sports throws out. i mean come on, iowa as a 90???? yikes) and edited coaches so that they are true to skill level. any and all injuries were allowed to happen. for instance we lost brock vereen pretty early on so things hopefully will be a little different on that front this year.

But here's how it all shook out.

MN ratings(at season's end after players have improved throughout the season):

overall 84
offense 83
defense 87
we didn't start the season anywhere near that good so it speaks to our overall young roster gaining some game experience.

the games. this part honestly shocked me the way it ended up. so here goes

vs UNLV- W-35-9 Kirkwood rushes for 3 TDs and the D holds unlv to under 200 yards of total offense. just a dominating win in every fashion. a couple of red zone turnovers are the only reason it isn't a massive blowout.

@ NMSU W- 27-10 Kirkwood rolls for 125 yds and 2 more TDs as the D is stout again and the Gophers are up 27-3 in the 3rd and coast to a win.

vs West Ill W 31-3Phil Nelson has 2 TDs and Damien Wilson has a huge day with 12 tackles, a sack, and a FF as the Gophs win easily again.

vs SJSU L 28-24 A painful one as late Nelson pick and 2 missed red zone chances doom us. We pick Fales twice but he throws for 342 yards and 4 TDs for the Spartans.

vs Iowa Rebound W 28-21 Gophers get down 14-0 early but rally back behind kirkwood (164 yds, 2 TDs)and the defense (Int to seal it, 2 sacks, defensive TD). Nelson gets nicked up and Leidner comes in and plays poorly. Bring back the pig!

@ Mich Things almost got a little crazy here. L 20-17 in OT We jumped out to a 17-0 lead (2 Kirkwood TDs) in the early 2nd quarter but the offense fizzled out and in heartbreaking fashion, Devin Gardner scrambles for an 80 yd TD with just over a minute left in the game to send it to OT. Nelson is back and throws a pick in the 1st OT and Mich kicks a FG for the win. The defense shuts down gardner throwing though in impressive fashion as he is 13-22 for just 95 yards. tough loss.

@ NW Redemption W 24-21 in OT Nelson goes down again and Leidner fills in vailiantly sparking a 4th quarter comeback as he scores a 3 yd TD with just over a minute left to send it to OT where Simien (also filling in for Colter) throws a pick and we win it on a 34 yd FG.

vs Neb L 23-13 Martinez is out and we can't get the win. offense is stagnant as nelson goes 12-28 for 106 yds and a pick. D does all they can to keep us in it with 2 picks and several sacks but the offense it just miserable in this one.

@ Ind another nail biterW 27-20 in OT Nelson's woes continue as he goes 20-44 with 2 picks but does counter it with some big plays and 2 TDs. Kirkwood also rushes for 124 yards. we shut down IUs offense and the only reason it was close was because of the picks. this one would a real rough one to have lost.

vs PSU W 20-10 win this one on the ground for sure. Nelson struggles yet again (14-36 for 170, a TD and 3 picks) but Kirkwood rolls for 139, Nelson adds 43, and the other backs combine for another 55 yards. Big shede shows up large in this one with 8 total tackles including 6 TFL with 2 sacks.

vs Wisc We got the axe!! W 16-13 in double OT she wasn't pretty at all but the d absolutely shut down wisky as the one td they scored was defensive. Stave goes 14-35 for 143 and a pick and is sacked 8, yes 8, times. Wilson with 2, Manuel with 2, Amaefula with 1, Cockran with 2, and Salzwedel with 1.

@ Mich St back down to earth for the d L 51-30 We're up after the first half 21-13 via 2 Nelson TDs but we get outscored 38-9 in the 2nd half. we give up 298 yards through the air to maxwell. just an ugly ugly game.

Overall record:
A solid 8-4 with a 5-3 in conference record.

Standings elsewhere in the BIG:

OSU 12-0 (8-0)
Neb 11-1 (7-1)

NW 7-5 (3-5)
Ind 5-7 (3-5)
Ill 2-10 (1-7)
Iowa 3-9 (0-8) and i swear i didn't touch anything lol. culminated in a 61-7 loss to Neb at seasons end.
PSU 3-9 (0-8) pretty injury filled season for them

Big Ten Championship:
Neb vs OSU. OSU wins 51-21 and goes undefeated.

Bowling:

NW beats Buffalo 31-13
Purdue loses to OK ST 33-20
Mich beats ole Miss 35-18
Wisky beats Vandy 42-16
Mizzou beats Mich St 41-20
Neb beats Georgia 31-28

Minn vs Kansas St L 30-17 ground game stalls out and we miss some opportunities in the red zone.

Overall we finish a solid 8-5 with another bowl bid.

some standout stats for the season.
Nelson struggles. 184-394 (46%) for 2421 yds and 13 TDs vs 12 Ints.
Kirkwood crushes 1000 yds going for 1302 and 13 TDs
Wolitarsky leads us in receptions and yards with 59 and 647 respectively. no Gopher receiver has more than 3 TDs.
Wilson racks up 84 tackles. Hageman has 9.5 sacks. Wells has 5 Ints.
Kickers go combined 15-29 on FGs. just brutal.

Well there ya have it. That's all she wrote for the season. so make sure to get tix now to the wisky game. its gonna be exciting!! If you have questions about the stuff or the methods I use, or if you want my gamertag to play or just to get my rosters let me know.

Hope you had fun if you stuck it out all the way to the end!!

Always get a kick out of these. thanks!!

I'm assuming you are being facetious here...but it is the internet, after all, so I can't tell.

I can't tell you how happy I would be with these results! Beating IA/WI (8 sacks!!!!) en route to 8 wins? Wow. I would be over the moon.

What I'm saying is I used another users roster set which named all players and tweaked their rankings so that over rated players are rated more in accordance with their actual skills. Iowas team is a stock 90 overall which is vastly over rated for a team many are picking to be near the bottom.
The 2nd part where I said I didn't touch was bc it looks like I just made Iowa awful but I didn't edit the team, just used another person's roster at so that I didn't have a maroon and gold bias

Love the synopsis! Most definitely a refreshing distraction from the grind of the offseason news. But, hey, at least fall camp is here now and games are right around the corner!

Was it you who posted the NCAA 13 simulations last year for some of the Gophers games? If so, I enjoyed those as well!

upnorthkid, For old farts like me who don't play video games... is this simulation unique/specific to your console/game, or is this some sort of "community" simulation?

Yes that was me. I did it this way this year as once injuries pile up it really changes so this just becomes a fun little look at what the season could be. Thanks for the comment!

Basically it is unique in the essence that when the simulations happen the processor uses many factors (coach tendencies, player skill, weather, etc) and runs plays against each other for the full game time. It's unique in that different players will get hurt through a season, kickers will hit fgs at different times, qbs will hit a groove at times, and so on so that every simmed season has a slightly different feel with the same overall tendencies (ie bama will always be good and ho at least 10-2) the main changes are in the coin flip games/plays and can really give every season a different look

Also noticed they have players that quit the team last season. Can't keep up with everything over the spring, but last season? Looks like we really fell off the national radar. BTW our coach looks like Childress. TCF looks nice though.

What did the simulation predict last year? Sorry, don't remember. :)

C'mon.....We should have beat Nebraska at The Bank!

agreed this was pretty frustrating. another common one seems to be putting connor cosgrove on the active roster.

In the simulation did we get any Top 25 love at any point?

also rec votes after NW win. ranked 24th after wisc win. no ranking at seasons end. probably just bc all of our wins are over teams who finished pretty poorly

Fantasy footbal is probably a lot more fun for some of you than the real...

deal. But, in the end, life is a LOT tougher...than the fantasy stuff is.

No wonder the student section is SO empty...

Fantasy Football...goes right along with high school fantasy football recruiting.

It looks as though things won't be changing very much any time soon. Reusse should have a little fun with this one...

LOL - Who knows more about fantasy than wren with his worship of Glen? You got love his comments on life and reality.

I'd be curious to see what your simulation would conclude if you changed the bios of two players: make Nelson a grad of a western Pennsylvania HS and Kirkwood a grad of non-metro Minnesota school.
