National Recognition

nice brief piece on Bernie Bierman. wonder how many more national championships he might have won prior to him enlisting in the Marines for World War II

old joke, but where is Wisky and Iowa in that short list of dynasty programs???? ;)

And the unanswered question remains: What changed to make UM football drop from a national power to a bottom-of-conference dweller? The end of the powerhouse era was 1961. Gee, what happened in Minnesota that year to start the decline and perpetuate the suffering?

It's when Dr Don started posting on Gopher Hole. Been down hill ever since.:)

was going to post this link as well. nice to see minnesota and coach bierman get some deserved national recognition as one of college football's eight dynasties of what is widely termed the modern football era (i.e. 1936-forward).

p.s. love how "butt hurt" the meatchicken fans are at not being named to this list. to give most of the ohio state fans who were posting comments credit, they GOT IT that minnesota truly was college football's FIRST modern era dynasty. dynasty being 3 national championships in a short span. shoot if the AP poll had "officially" started just 2 years earlier then minnesota technically had 5 AP national championships in just an 8 year span. even though virtually every college football pollster and writer does view minnesota as the true consensus national champions of 1934 and 1935....AP poll existing or not. meanwhile meatchicken fans are sh!tting themselves. ha!

Minnesota I think has the best dynesty of all these teams. For some reason they use 36 as a starting point but from 1934 on to 1941 we had 5 National Championships in 8 years in which no team has come close to. Plus FSU fans dont know how to read what espn considers a dynesty as they are the biggest babies on that board.

I like this historical perspective. Becky still has zero and no history.

FSU deserves great credit for finishing in the top four for something like 15 years. May not be a dynasty but probably won't happen again in our lifetime.

FSU had a great run and that is all. In any sport in the United States everyone talks dynesties when they win Championships. No one and I mean no one talks dynesties when they win a lot of games, or ranked high year in and year out, they are considered good but not champion or dynesty worthy. A lot of FSU people cant read what espn meant by dynesties.
