Can someone get this straight for me:

There are two bowl games at the Rose Bowl in 2014 - Jan 1 Rose Bowl B1G vs Pac 12 champions; Jan 6 BCS National Championship.

It is entirely possible that the B1G will be playing in the Rose Bowl twice. That is, if Ohio State is ranked No. 2 after the end of the regular season after the conference championships.

That will be awesome.

This is the most exciting final three weeks of B1G football ever!

It is highly unlikely there would be 2 B1G teams. The Rose Bowl Game does not have an automatic tie to the B1G if a B1G team goes to the National Championship. Even if MI St is 11-2 with a loss to tOSU in the B1G Championship Game, I doubt they get an at large BCS bid. And even if they do get an at large BCS bid, again, the Rose Bowl Game is not obligated to take them, and they could end up in one of the other three games (happened a few years ago - B1G 2nd team (IA?) ended up in Orange Bowl if I remember right).

Yep, it was Iowa.

If Ohio State is playing in the national title game, and the Big Ten has a second team in the top 14 of the BCS, I guarantee that team will be in the Rose Bowl.

Assuming Alabama is in the title game, the Sugar Bowl would get the first replacement pick and take the highest-ranked SEC team (if ranked in the top 14). The Rose would then get the next pick, and do the same with the Big Ten.

That's because OSU was in the Rose Bowl that year...

It's VERY likely, if a 2nd team is eligible (basically MSU or Wisconsin are the only hopes at this point) that the Rose Bowl would make them the selection if OSU goes to the National Championship Game. Iowa was not selected to the Rose Bowl because the Rose Bowl went elsewhere that year, they went to the Orange Bowl because the Rose Bowl already took the B1G champ (OSU).

Seriously, with how much people don't know about this stuff I'm starting to think most Gopherholers don't know squat about CFB outside of our own team.

Ummm...no. Look at the 2002-03 season at the following. Fiesta Bowl was the national championship and OSU went there. Orange had the next pick and took Iowa. Rose picked after and got Oklahoma.

You're absolutely right. That being said, in this case Rose picks before Orange, and would likely pick the BIG team if applicable

Rose is WAY down the list this year.

4. After steps No. 1, 2, and 3 have been completed, any bowl with an unfilled slot shall select a team from the automatic qualifiers and/or at-large teams in the following order:

• January 2014 games - Orange, Sugar, Fiesta

That order isn't applicable when choosing a replacement for a host team, which is the scenario we are discussing here. If the Rose Bowl loses out on Ohio State, they will get either the first or second selection, depending on the Buckeyes' ranking.

Got it. This maybe?

3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-12 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select:

A. A team in the NCG, or

B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;

Further, when two bowls lose host teams, the bowl losing the No. 1 team may not select a replacement team from the same conference as the No. 2 team, unless the bowl losing the No. 2 team consents.

There, that's pretty clear huh?

I'll take Clemson or some other non B1G school in the Rose Bowl if it means Minnesota knocked Wisconsin out BCS consideration.

I guess I don't know why you think the Rose would take a B1G team when they could take almost any team other than 2nd place in ACC/SEC depending who tOSU would play. To think they will automatically jump at the 2nd B1G team just because they're there doesn't make sense. They will get whomever will bring in the most revenue.

You're right, not like that extra payday that gets distributed to the rest of the conference is wanted/needed.

You're right. They should just forfeit the next two games in order to try and get a 2nd B1G team. Brilliant.

I could have sworn the post was referring to the 2009 season...I guess a couple of years ago is now over a decade?

I said a few, not a couple. Next time I use a non-specific amount I'll make sure to clear it with you that it adequately describes the amount I'm discussing.

You could be right. However, the Rose Bowl has literally never passed up a BIG team. The only time a BIG team didn't play in the Rose was 2003 (already discussed above, OSU in championship and Iowa already picked) and 2006 (USC / Texas national championship). There is a ton of tradition, etc (obviously) with the Rose taking a BIG team, and IMO they will want to continue that. It's not like WI or MSU would be Fresno St or UCF, it would still be a good revenue draw - especially since the opponent will now definitely be a Pac-12 team with Oregon / Stanford being out of National Title consideration.
