Dan B. showed exactly how clueless he is on college sports. Nanne threw out the idea of using one of the 20 or so football coaching jobs as a part time 'recruiting coordinator' and pay a minimal salary to Dungy for the purpose of getting Dungy on the payroll so he can talk to the kids they are recruiting about MN. Then said that he would love to talk to recruits about the hockey program but can't.

Anyway, Dan said, well you do that now don't you? Nanne said, no, you can't. Dan- but... Nanne- You can't. Dan-Well, alright, but...

And he let it drop in his disgusted tone of voice.

It seems like a good idea, but where would it stop. Pretty soon schools would have every booster/former player on the payroll for $1 so they could talk to kids about their school.

Yeah, I don't know if it is a good idea, I was more surprised that Dan couldn't believe that people like Dungy and Nanne can't do that now, even after Nanne made the point quite clear.

When was the last time Dungy attended a Gopher football game? Does he even donate money to the university? For a guy everyone is touting as the savior of the program he sure doesn't associate himself with the U very much....

It doesn't stop just ask all the ex-Canes about the recruiting they do for free.

Good point. It would be nice if Tony gave us some love once in a blue moon.

The NCAA limits the number of coaches a program can have on staff.

i would be interested to see a current photo of dungy wearing a gophers hat or shirt or sweater vest. I don't believe said photo exists.

He is a great NFL coach and a good ally to the program I believe, but I agree, he doesn't show us much love.

Actually, I've seen Dungy on television at some Gopher basketball games wearing Gopher apparel...he has also spoken to teams when asked...I know that J.Robinson had him address the wrestlers...some of you need to pay attention a little more before you start spouting off.

Hire Nanne as AD. He gets it. He knows how important football is to the University.

What about football? Sorry, I don't care if he addresses the wrestlers.

Dungy, Dungy, Dungy. He has a lot of other things going on, he's not interested in being a coach or the AD. Why are people so sure he would be a great college coach? And have him be a recruiter for a team that he has little or no involvement with? Does Dungy's name really carry much weight with 17 and 18 year olds anyway?

It carries more weight than Trestman or Dan McCarney

Going to the capital a few years ago to help lobby for a new stadium should count for something in my book.

Not sure about the past few years but Tony was very active in the last stages of getting the funding for TCF Bank stadium. He was at the capital and gave a great talk on the capital steps. Tony loves the U.

Enjoy your picture. http://b.vimeocdn.com/ts/232/704/23270477_100.jpg

Dungy lobbied the legislature for a new stadium and speaks to the football and wrestling teams. He lives in Florida and watches his son play football at Oregon.
