Myron P. Medcalf: It's OK. No comparison to the student sections at some of the other Big Ten arenas. Michigan State, Wisconsin, Indiana ... they're into the game for the entire game.

Indiana...really??

It's a shame Minnesota scheduled a couple of teams that are completely buried by the 10 minute mark I guess. Give me a game where it's 66-64 with a minute to play and I'm quite sure the student section will be engaged for the entire game. Ask Bo Ryan and his boys what the noise was like as they scrambled to get something on the offensive end near the end of last year's game at the Barn.

Myron's a fool. He probably thinks there is more magic at Otto Arena (at Mankato State) than the Barn.

With Michigan State, I would certainly agree. Those folks are completely insane from start to finish. Indiana I'm not sure about and as for Wisconsin, I'm REALLY not sure. Folks in Madtown were complaining pretty readily about the lack of atmosphere at the Kohl Center last season.

I've really just about had it with Myron. The glaring issue with this is that the "Grateful Red" is NOT a good student section. I will give him MSU and Indiana. From all accounts the Kohl Center is a tough place to win, but the Wisconsin student section is not the reason why.

Pretty easy to have an insane student section when you are a perennial top 10 team like MSU. I wonder what student sections for teams like MSU, Duke, etc. would look like if they were mediocre programs. Probably not too good. Students, like everybody else, like a winner.

The only time Myron sees these student sections is during the Big ten season, which is also when ours is at its best as well...How do you think these schools student sections are when they are playing the patsies as well?

Myron digs himself into alot of holes, doesn't he.

I wonder if he doesn't want the job and is passive- agressively trying to get fired/ transferred.

B-ball fan base- both students and regular- are strong. Numbers through the bad years bear that out.

Two years ago Indiana didn't even have a student section: http://www.idsnews.com/news/story.aspx?id=63343

They are woefully uncreative:

And from an Indiana fan, they don't even deserve a name
What student section? We don’t even have a real student section. We have random clusters of students. The athletic department needs to prioritize — they should be working on actually making a legitimate student section before jumping to the step of naming it. Before sections get named they all should SITTING TOGETHER. Groups like the Cameron Crazies, the Oakland Zoo, you name it (pun fully intended).

I don’t find many faults with IU athletics but the lack of a first-come first-serve contiguous student section is a major problem. I don’t care whose fault it is, it just needs to get fixed.

The student section was a little lackluster at the SFA game, but I guess when it's your 4th guaranteed blowout win in a row, the excitement level takes a step down. I don't expect tonight to be any better.

When the meaningful games roll around though, the place will be crazy, no worries.
